En-route from RAF Woodvale to Bootle - chose this place as between the two. Recognised the menu from prior visits to the Brampton Mill in Huntingdon and the Hole in the Wall in Bristol. Both excellent. A chain then. Chains can be decent. Pub itself is large, off the beaten track. Big car park outside. Seated immediately, but it was quiet so that’s fair. The beer was Peroni; you like to see it. Pheasant feather in a case on table. Nice touch. Mushroom medley to start - interesting but covered in gravy and I couldn’t find the foccacia. Nice mushrooms though. Classic dirty burger for main - good size, not too big. Tiny copper pan of gravy for the people. A hit. Well done. Sticky toffee pud for dessert. A good one. Moist and unctuous; dripping with datey goodness. Yum. Bring me another. Overall a tasty meal. Good to see. Slight smell of drains in pub. But could have been coming from nearby fields. I’d eat here again. A decent drop-in if you’re in the area. Parking: Big car park outside. At least thirty spaces. Many adverts for a Sunday roast…
Sunday Roast dinner was great, had the Troi roast, but have to say, would have liked more than 1x piece of beef and pork. Good taste, lovely veg and topped off with a big yorkie. The burger was massive and tasty.Food: 4/5
Lovely welcoming pub not far from Formby and Crosby, so perfect lunch stop after a morning dog walk on the beach. Delicious food, superb staff and dog friendly as well. Pub dining doesn’t get better than this. Thank you to Jackie and Liv for looking after us and our two retrievers.
Passed by this restaurant for years. This Easter we stopped to check out the service, food and in general the atmosphere. Posh end lookalike at least the customers want to look like... Needed around 5 mins to get a welcome and a table. Plenty of tables were available by the window. We requested window seat, but been ignored ‍ 1 mixed roast dinner and one fish and chips was our order with 2x Peroni and 1x Tonic. Fish was full with bones, though the quality was good. Not outstanding quality. Chips were hot, well enough portion. The ‘homemade’Tartar sauce was weird taste, didn’t like it. The first time and first ever place where I couldn’t finish my food. Something was just missing from there! Mixed roast was nice. The meat was good quality, but unfortunately the gravy was so tiny on the meal, we had to order some extra sauce for an extra charge, but to be honest the waiting time was so long for that single gravy, almost finished the whole meal. Also, wasn’t the same, it was really runny, like water. I had an extra ‘chocolate bomb’ or whatever that’s called. Ideally, I can pour the hot chocolate on a chocolate ball and it opens or melting that and an extra chocolate fudge inside. This whole thing came out with a tiny tiny amount of vanilla ice cream. I mean it it was just a tiny portion, just like the fudge inside that chocolate ball. Funny thing, but the chocolate sauce wasn’t hot enough to melt the ball, so I had to give a slap for that to brake with a fork. It was something to amaze customers, but it wasn’t entertaining at all. Overthinking stuff. I’d be happier with a nice slice of fudge cake and a decent sized ice cream. After a bad beginning, the waiters were nice at the end. With the tip we were just about somewhere £70+. Don’t take it wrong, that could be a nice meal in town, too. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Although the food is expensive it's very good. Really enjoyed everything we orderedFood: 5/5
Greeted warmly and sat at a table close by the window but also close to the radiator and a fireplace so was nice and cosy with an outside view. Our server, Jake, was really lovely and attentive to when we needed more drinks and any questions about the menu. He even called before our reservation to let us know they were out of roast dinners we didn’t come for them anyway but it just shows great customer service. We enjoyed all our meals and will definitely be back as it’s a nice place with good vibes.
Staff, as always, are amazing! Lovely decor and a welcoming environment. I have been coming here for years and always enjoy it.Food: 5/5
