Its a modest hotel, so you can't expect extremely high standards for the rooms. That said, the service was absolutely excelent. They helped us with everything, gave us advice for hikes etc. They even went all the way out to send us some clothes and boots we forgot in the room. From Scotland to Spain. Can't thank them enough. Right in the heart of Fort William, you can walk anywhere from the hotel. If you are looking for a cheaper option, with incredible service I definitely recommend it!!
The toilet was disgusting, literally lifted the lid and it was covered in s-stains. The shower is in the middle of the ceiling like in a camper van so the shower curtain pulls across in front of the toilet, but when not in use hangs right next to the bowl. So the yellow stains along the bottom edge were not a mystery. The welcome sheet says we only do housekeeping every 3 days, but ask if you need more. This was my first night, so obviously even empty rooms get left for the third day. After 10pm there is no one on duty and reception is closed so I'd advise checking everything when you arrive . Next morning I put the shower on and it was cold. Myabe it will turn on from some central location after 7am, I thought, but no. 730am no. Still freezing. The sink has luke warm water but it was hot last night so you realise you better just have a wash before that ends up cold too. Stiĺl no one on duty, and the car park starts need ing a ticket at 8am it says in your welcome laminate, so now you have to leave before 8am, which is when staff come on duty. Presumably. The car park is 830am as it turns out. The laminate says you are paying for room only, but after 8am the room with some tea and coffee and cereal is available, so I guess that is when staff come on duty. You already need to leave because the laminate made you head for car park to put a ticket on your car. It does say you can buy a ticket the night before and not get up early, but you think you will have hot shower and head to work before 8am and it wont be worth bothering. The walls are thin and my room looked out onto the town centre street, so it was noisy. The rooms are very dated. The beds were comfy and clean but after the state of the bathroom you kind of lie there and worry.
Lovely view! The room was very retro which I loved! The staff was very nice as well definitely worth staying for longer.Rooms: 5/5
Very good value for money compared to all the other hotels here. Reception are super friendly and gave us information about the area etc. Our room had a great view of the lochRooms: 5/5
Perfect place after 7 days hiking and enjoy Fort William. Really warm welcome from the entire team. I will come back for sureRooms: 5/5
The rooms are very basic. That said we needed a room for the night before our 3 Peaks Challenge. The hotel is located on the pedestrianised high street. It can get loud if you're trying to doze off early. If you're not expecting 5 star luxury it'll be fine. Staff were pleasant and friendly enough didn't interact with them much
Amazing front desk staff. Very kind and helpful. Best stay in fort williams. Would be back.Rooms: 5/5
Ossians is in a great location - literally the centre of the high street. The place is old and tired, which is fine by me, its just a place to rest our heads ar night. However the worst part was the the smell in our room. It smelt of cats urine, with a really strong smell of ammonia. We eventually realised it was coming from the bathroom so kept the door shut unless using it. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, so it was very difficult to get towels dry. The room itself had mold and damp problems, and it was noisy at night being on the highsteet. I'd say if you have options to go elsewhere do, if not it's fine if you get a room that doesn't smell! It was clean and beds comfortable.
Couldn't have been a better location for our trip to Fort William. Right in the centre of town close to bars and restaurants. We had a warm welcome from the reception and plenty of knowledge and recommendations on where to go on an evening. As stated by Ossians themselves, the room is basic and serves a simple purpose. The cooking facilities were ideal and meant we could opt to eat in. The only real poor thing was the shower, it was not much more than a dribble falling from the ceiling and meant that I'd actually skip using it and opt for a basin wash instead which was a shame. Bottom line is don't expect a Premier Inn and you'll be just fine! I'd be back to Ossians any time.
Personally we found no redeeming characteristics at this 'hotel' The interior was extremely outdated, seemly not changed since the '90s. The carpet has not been cleaned in at least a decade, just a strong musk & dust smell that if you have asthma I would strongly avoid this place. The bed is old, loud and has long lost any support it once had, my back was shot after one night. If you are looking for a good nights sleep before attempting Ben Nevis, this is not the place. The bathroom is basic to fit the theme, a freestanding shower cubicle that resembles being in a washing machine, water pressure was surprisingly good though. The toilet is ok, but no proper toilet paper just squares of single ply out of a dispenser, sets the mood for your stay. There is little to no sound proofing in the room, normally not an issue but because you are on the high street you will hear every drunk person coming out of the pub. The location is pretty good, located in the center of town close to some nice places to eat and close enough to the car park. The staff were very pleasant when we arrived and they definitely pull the weight for the hotel stay. Overall... Avoid!! But if you was a cheap hostel stay, and don't care about comfort, smell, sleep, cleanliness and toilet paper...then sure. But your parked car might be a better sleep.
