We booked for just one night and we will certainly stay again...for longer! Barbara was the manager in charge whilst the owners were on a well deserved break. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made very welcome. We wouldn't normally look for a guest house but each time I have visited Tynemouth this stylish building has intrigued me and we loved it from the minute we walked in....beautiful old stone flagstones in the hallway and period features give you a feeling of the history. We were upgraded and the room was a delight with stylish furnishings, a great ensuite and balcony although it was a bit chilly to sit out. We preordered our full cooked breakfast and were shown into the gorgeous tearoom and breakfast was ready for us. It really was excellent, well presented, hot and guilt free (nothing worse than being presented with a greasy fry-up) we ate every morsel! You can tell that we had a very enjoyable evening, there are many great eateries on Front Street: we slept extremely well in a really comfy bed and would certainly recommend Number 61 without hesitation. I took my daughter here for afternoon tea with her two Grandmas as a special birthday treat. The staff could not have been any nicer. When we got there they had placed a helium balloon on her table, and brought her a card with a hand written message inside. In her words " the balloon made her day" . The food was delicious and fresh and nothing was too much trouble. The décor is something that must be seen, the photos don't do it any justice. Over all we had a fantastic day in Tynemouth which was made even better by the warm friendly staff at cafe 61
