A lovely small Nation Trust building and garden with a lot of history.nnThere's a small shop/second hand book store on site.nnWe didn't see the cafe, I think it was closed on our visit but a quick stroll into the village and there's places to grab a meal or just a coffee there.
A lovely Old building with a lot of history, And a nice formal garden
We visited Washington Old Hall recently after waiting for it to reopen from Covid. It was certainly worth the wait.nnMy Daughter loved the mouse hunt in the hall itself and the history of the building itself is very interesting indeed. The guide in the house was also very keen to answer any questions too.nnI have seen on other reviews that people have complained about the grounds but I think they are a perfect balance of Formal and neat at the hall and the wild garden which is still tidy yet perfect for nature.nnThe only downside to the grounds was that the bird feeders never had any food in. Other than that though they were perfect.nnWhen we visited they had a mobile making craft day on for children which was free to do. Staff were friendly all throughout the site too.nnThe car parking is on the street outside however there is disabled parking on site if required. There is also toilet facilities on site too.nnPeople have complained about the lack of coffee shop on the site. There is some local shops not far away for those that need refreshments.nnAll in a very good place to visit and we will certainly be back!
This is a real gem. Quite a small property but with lots of history dating from 14th century, with a 17th century dining room, kitchen and panelled room reconstruction, including having been converted into miners’ tenements in the late 19th and early 20th century, with a tenement reconstructed room upstairs, plus the ancestral connection with George Washington. The house is well set out and volunteer guides very friendly and informative. There is a small shop on site, and toilets, but no cafe.
A nice old stone house, not very big but sympathetically restored and still showing a number of original details inside. There is some good interpretation from interviews with some of the original residents of the house in the 1930s when it had been split into severely cramped apartments during the Great Depression. There are some small but pleasant gardens outside. Worth a visit if passing, but you can see around the place in not more than 45 mins probably. If you're coming for the George Washington connection, be aware that it's genuine but very distant LOL. The on-site cafe is permanently closed but there are a couple of others in the village square 2 minutes' walk away.
