Definitely the best place to go in London when trying to find a bike that fits you perfectly. I spent a number of months visiting various bike shops around London that can supply a bike that fits me I'm fairly short and Mosquito was the only shop that really sounded like they knew what they were talking about and were also able to put me on their specialist rig to confirm the frame size I should chose before they ordered it. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and unlike other shops, they didn't try pushing a bike which they knew wouldn't fit me well. The only downside was a delay in the construction of the bike. While the delay a supply issue for my unusually small frame wasn't a problem itself at all, they could have kept me informed about these delays a little better. This seems to have been a one-off issue though and I still highly recommend them.
I think you'd struggle to find a shop with more polar reviews in the land! I've been dealing with Mosquito for the last 5 years and they've always been great. I first used them to put together my mid-low end road bike from bits I had purchased. It's been back to them twice in recent years with the usual wear and tear and both times it's been sorted quickly and cheaply. I popped in earlier this week with an annoying and recurring creaking coming from somewhere deep in the bike. I'd taken it to two other bike shops who will remain nameless who had diagnosed the problem as pedal bearings Purchased new pedals - Turned out not to be the solution and bottom bracket by another. I eventually took it to Mosquito who took less than a minute to diagnose the rear wheel bearings were shot. I booked the bike in this morning and picked it up 4 hours later, paid £20, the bike is now running as silently as the day it was built. I do concur with some of the other reviews that the staff can sometimes seem a little distracted, I personally don't care, if I want cuddles and pleasantries then I'm sure there are better shops. I value more the fact that they can fix bikes properly!
Purchased a cyclo-cross bike here in 2015. Found that their care and interest in me went down markedly when I expressed an interest in the only sub £1k bike they had. Found staff to be fairly unfriendly and when the bike developed a problem in the first couple of weeks, they weren't very helpful in getting it resolved and intimated I should have bought a better bike. Opening hours aren't that convenient either if you work normal office hours.
After reading through the largely negative experiences of previous customers at Mosquito Bikes I thought it was worth re-dressing the balance somewhat. A short history: I'm in the market for a Surly LHT touring bike - roughly over £1000 to spend. Based upon reviews I went out of my way to head down to Brixton Bikes to see if they could help me out. Being based in north east London it was a bit out of my way to get there but the reviews of the place seemed so positive that it was worth the effort. To cut a long story short, it seems the popularity of the place made it difficult to get served on Saturday, even after waiting an hour and after having phoned ahead to check whether it would be worth my while heading down. I phoned and emailed about the possibilty of organising a test ride at some other time without any response. This isn't the place to make a comment on a rival shop, especially after such a short visit to the place but, suffice to say, I needed to find somewhere when I was going to be able to get service. So I thought I'd give Mosquito Bikes a try, being much nearer to where I live and stocking the same bike that I was after. I had nothing but a positive experience from beginning to end. I arrived at 10.30am on Saturday after having booked an appointment via email for a bike fitting. Emailing and phoning Mosquito Bikes has never been a problem - I get a response the same day if not within an hour of having emailed. The fitting itself was professionally done and I felt as if I was really getting my money's worth. My requests for modifications were noted and ordered. Although the bike itself hasn't yet arrived I'm hoping I can update this review when it does I have nothing but positive feeelings about this company and would go out of my way to reommend them to other people.
I have dealt with Mosquito several times over the last ten years and have always found them helpful and extremely knowledgeable. But it's worth noting that they are not just your average LBS Local Bike Shop, they are a shop that specialises in high end bikes and gear. Like other people have suggested, if you bring your banged up Nissan to a Ferrari specialist, they might not be falling over each other to serve you. That said, if they could find a way of communicating their high-end focus a little better, and/or be a little more friendly to the people who've walked in thinking it's a regular LBS, then it'd be a win-win for all.
Great shop with lots of lovely bikes that you will lust over...very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. They gave me a good chunk of time for a bike fit and then to really work out best options for me, including follow up emails and contact with supplier. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you are looking for some serious bike buying/advice
Must say one of the friendliest and most helpful bike shopsI have used. Dropped in with a headset problem, got free advice, free patch up and even a free part. Cannot understand the other reviews, have used them ever since
Really not sure what the fuss is all about. I've been in and out of Mosquito a bunch of times over the past few years; bought a few things, asked a lot of questions, drooled over the odd super-bike and everyone I've delt with has been well informed, friendly and crucially patient with my mid-range level of bike knowledge. Are they more interested in selling italian steel to high end punters?..... almost certainly; but I dont recognise at all the rudeness/arrogance suggested in many of the other reviews. Plan to buy a bike there as soon as funds permit.
"Yes congratulations you know more about bikes than me, that's why you work in a bike shop!" I imagine they would be more friendly if I wanted £5000 worth of titanium bike but I only wanted a specific tool worth a fiver. I'll go to Evans next time, cheaper too.
Not sure why this place rates so badly as it's an excellent shop for what it is. It's a shop that specialises in high end gear and bikes. If you go in with a Halford's £100 bike of course you might feel slightly uncomfortable. Know before you go, but if you are looking for clothing or a bike from the higher end of the market they can't be faulted.
