About

A place to eat, drink, relax and listen to great music

Story

A modern twist on the traditional tavern, we take European influences and British charm to create seasonal menus that are wholesome, honest and skilled.

Our bar is open from 11am - 12am Monday to Saturday and 11am - 10pm on Sundays. We have good beer on tap and by the bottle, exceptional wines, as well as small plates, charcuterie and toasted sandwiches to keep you going.

For private dining and events, our unique private room, The Storeroom is fully equipped for meetings, presentations and of course, parties. Available for up to 22 seated or 35 standing.
Or, for a special dining experience, seats at our Kitchen Counter are available for groups up to 10 with bespoke tasting menus available.

Just popped in for a beer but what a magnificent place! Great staff and good beer. Restaurant part of the premises looks fine and some great aromas eminating from the kitchen. This place Merchants Tavern must have a history, I'll find out and post. Well worth a visit if you are either hungry or thirsty! Frames of butterflies on the walls, not now politically correct but a wonderful document from a bygone era. Ask yourself; How many of these can I identify? If you struggle, have a walk and see the beauty around you. Have fun!
Dissapointing. Dined here as part of a large group for a 30th birthday and suffered a slow and mediocre experience. Considering how detailed and flash the menu appeared we had to Google most things to know what was on offer we expected some rather unique dishes - even more so considering the prices! Some 45 minutes after ordering, our food came out in slow waves. My decision to politely wait for my friend's meals was a bad one as my steak was soon cold. The food itself was well presented and tasted fine, some lovely combinations or flavours and plenty of food-sharing across the table occurred! Someone's chips came out as we were finishing our food, at least they were shared round to help mop up the leftover juices! My night out at the Merchants Tavern cost me £40 for a starter, main and a beer and I felt hard done by. It would have cost me £47 had we chosen to bring our own birthday cake, they have the cheek to insist on a 'cakeage' fee of £7 per person! That would have been a £105 Collin the caterpillar! We won't be returning.
Lovely food, great service, very nice space. We during the Sunday Roast and they have a great deal, 3 courses for 30 pounds. The wine selection was also quite impressive
Better a couple of years ago. Still interesting but the quality of the food needs revamping. Good service, but we had to wait a while for the table even with a reservation
Great food and drinks! Had the roast beef then limoncello tart and chocolate mousse to finish - delicious! Cocktails were good, not much choice for softs. Not the cheapest but worth it.
Food was really good. Service needs a refresh. We waited an hour between starters and mains. And then had to flag down three different people to give them our money. There were two large groups that came and left between us and it was clear we were not important to staff. Shame as the place used to have a great vibe. Only one photo because we waited so long that totally forgot to keep documenting.
Restaurant hidden away at the back was such a surprise after walking into a very loud bar. Suggestion: request a booth / corner table. The menu was incredible. Really difficult to choose, fish dishes were excellent. Cocktails also delicious. Definitely going back!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Stylish interior with good space between the tables and not too noisy so you can have a proper conversation without needing to shout. Interesting menu too the Polpette al sugo was amazing. Good choice of wine too. Not a cheap place, but good for a special occasion. Would certainly recommend.
Great place! Must try their croquettas. And dont be shy to venture further indoors as its a ginormous place. Good ambience and decor as well.
Great brunch , not noisy on a Saturday afternoon - will go again
