Nice food presentation, though.. I thought it looked a bit dry, but actually it tastes really great. All the dishes were appreciated by our party of 7, who was served promptly over lunch. The vegan dishes that I ate were very tasty for sure. The atmosphere is a bit loud but fun. Toilets are two stairs up. Definitely a good place. Happy we chose to eat there.
Great restaurant in between of a casual dining and fine dining. Food greatly prepared, very tasty and perfectly cooked. Deserts were amazing. As starters we went for the aubergine and pig checks - both delicious, very mellow and full of flavours. Mains were steak and lamb and we weren't disappointed. Cooked medium but we were asked if it was ok. Service was great as well.
Great brunch in an old house with creaky floors and tons of character. Needed to book reaaaally in advance but the food was great. Had the slow cooked lamb egg benedict, my friends had the eggs benedict with miso mushroom, and also the sambal prawn omelette, which were also fantastic. The pancakes were also to die for, defo a place to add to your brunch list!
The Modern Pantry is quality food and quality ingredients. It's your basic brunch dishes with a few inventive ideas thrown in. There are plenty of options for anyone - sweet, savory, vegetarian, etcetera. I usually order the prawn omelette, as I did at brunch today. It's an elegant dish with good flavor, and a tad spicy but not if you eat spicy curries with ease. Today was a little of a miss; the omelette was runny. If you go for brunch, ORDER THE BRUNCH SPECIAL. You get a sample of everything. It's £19.50 per person, but if another person orders something light it's enough for two. The restaurant itself is nice, bright, and airy. It's a long, narrow room and very packed. I'm not sure if I'd go back on the weekend since it's so packed - if you're sitting away from the window - you'll get bumped into constantly - and that makes a difference. It's not comfortable to sit there. The first picture is part of the brunch special and the second is of the prawn omelette.
Super delicious prawn omelette and chicken. The desserts, on the other hand, were not that impressive. Overall a good brunch place and friendly staff.
Beautiful casual neighborhood restaurant in Clerkenwell. The brunch/breakfast here is great - good selection of food. Service is always friendly, and coffee is yummy. While there's lots of small tables/ sharing tables on the ground floor, there's also more seating available upstairs for big groups.
Really yummy food!! The omelette was the best on the brunch menu. The rose lemonade is very pink very pretty and the staff are absolute babe
This place supposedly has a good reputation, but I'm not convinced. I always call in advance about wheelchair access. They said it was, with accessible toilet... but to my dismay, there were two large steps at the entrance. Ok, so they did have a side door with a smaller step, then a ledge, and apparently a ramp to get up, but a member of staff managed to help me up so the ramp didn't make an appearance. Once inside, they did have an accessible toilet but the dinning area is quite narrow. Lucky it was a sunny day so I didn't mind having a table outside. I had a look at their menu online and it doesn't seem to have been updated as the one thing I wanted to try the cornbread was not on the menu presented to me. How disappointing to have to settle for second choice. Food arrived and was ok. As we were enjoying the sun, we became peckish again and ordered pancakes to share. This was the only item on the menu with a comment to allow 20 minutes to serve. I queried this with the waitress but she didn't know and said that it needed to be cooked... But surely everything else required time to prepare and cook, what was so special about these pancakes? She laughed embarrassingly and walked away, not offering to find out. Sure enough, they took at least 20 minutes to arrive. They didn't look too bad, but they were not like any pancakes I've ever seen before. They were more like squished cakes so I decided to rename them "flatcakes". Definitely not worth the wait. In fact, they were still raw in the middle so perhaps 20 minutes wasn't enough time! I asked the waitress if it's supposed to be like this. She replied she didn't work in the kitchen so didn't know and would ask. I felt staff had poor knowledge and were not helpful. Another waitress came by after a bit of a wait. She said the kitchen was closed so could not redo the dish. I wouldn't have accepted another plate even if it were available and immediately asked for it to be sent back and taken off the bill. Very rare for me to send something back but I would have felt cheated to have to pay for these raw, flatcakes which we didn't even eat. I doubt I will come back to this place. Food was ok but nothing special and I expected service to be much better for an establishment like this. Such a shame...
Great decor and atmosphere. Very clean look and feel. Slightly cramped but not really an issue. Would recommend booking if you intend to come for brunch on a weekend. Food was good but ricotta pancakes were quite filling. In the vegetarian English breakfast equivalent, the fried halloumi was extremely salty. Overall, good restaurant - nice place for brunch and to catch up with friends.
Came here on a sunny day and the outside was quite full, but we got a table inside where it was quieter. We tried the sugar cured prawn omelette, which was excellent esp with the sambal, and the grilled miso and tamarind steak, which we found a little tough but the flavours were good. Would have loved to try their brunch menu.
