This hotel is stunning, a gorgeous little castle just a few miles from Edinburgh. We were unlucky in trying to get a taxi into Edinburgh, but the receptionist told me this is a first for her, as normally its not a problem. The rooms are fantastic, and beautifully decorated and furnished. The bed was very comfortable too. The food is also great, even if its a wee bit on the pricy side. We discovered this place on a whim, and we are so glad we did. The staff are so welcoming, helpful, and friendly. Fantastic service. Will definitely be back Rooms: The rooms are beautifully furnished with comfortable beds, and charming wood and leather seats. It fits the aesthetic of the castle, with its beautiful decor. Complete with a flat screen tv. Food & drinks: The food is fantastic. Beautifully presented and the wait wasn't too long. Service was also fantastic. The food is a wee bit on the pricy side, but it is very, very good. Don't be too disheartened seeing that the portions look quite small, we though this, but left the dining room feeling completely satiated.
The Melville Castle hotel was our first experience of Scotland and Edinburgh and it left a lasting impression. It is quite simply a stunning magical place to stay and the service is second to none. The room was of such high quality. The breakfast was delicious and staff were so polite and hospitable. A big thank you to Rachel for arranging the specific details of our stay via email with exceptional service. We will certainly be returning. Rooms: The romance package was certainly worth it and really had an impact on arrival for a first year anniversary. The cleanliness and overall finish of the room was exquisite and the room came well stocked with toiletries, towels, pillows and all the extras .
Everything about Melville was perfect for our wedding. From the moment we went out to view the venue, we knew we were in for something special. Fiona made the experience so easy for us and we felt so listened to and taken care of throughout the planning process. They have excellent resources for wedding vendors and have helpful lists to keep you on track with planning. We so appreciated the extra courtesies such as the Christmas card they sent us and for arranging a tea and coffee morning for us when our parents came to view the venue. On the day of the wedding, she and the Melville team took care of everything including set up and we felt able to enjoy our day care-free. The food is incredible and the event options are superb. I could not recommend Melville enough. We got our modern fairytale at Melville Castle!
First, the Brasserie Restaurant in the wine cellar is closed. All food service is in the Ballroom off the lobby. Second, you MUST ensure you book Afternoon Tea and Dinner reservations in advance. Third, you have to stay here, the Castle and grounds are spectacular. We only had a twin room and it was more than we expected.Rooms: 5/5
Very friendly and helpful staff always happy to lend a hand Room had a TV which was a nice touch and didn't have all the cables in a locked box so was easy to hook a laptop and watch films Restaurant timings were very accomodating so no need to get up at the crack of dawn to get breakfast Certain parts of the room if looked at too closely did show signs of age; cracks in furnishings, but nothing too outrageous There were also bags full of melted chocolate and sweets hidden at the backs of drawers and cabinets, left over from Halloween so might need a slightly more in depth cleaning routine Overall very nice stay and would use again when traveling to Edinburgh
Definitely the nicest of the castle hotels that we’ve stayed in. The Castle Suite room was absolutely gorgeous; bar was cozy and had a wonderful ambiance. Bartender was very knowledgeable on local history as well as good company. They should, however make s designated smoking area somewhere other than the front entrance… loved seeing the horses in the field out back!
Perfect room for my partner and our two dogs. The room was at the front end of the hotel so we could park outside and take the dogs in and out without going through the hotel. The room was beautifully clean and smelt very fresh.. No doggy odour!! Have rebooked the same room for February 2023Rooms: 5/5
Hotel is in a good location, not a busy area and only a short drive from Edinburgh. We brought a dog with us, who was kindly welcomed by staff. The hotel is very dog friendly; we were allowed to take him around all parts of the hotel apart from the main dining room, which is understandable. You can however take the dog for breakfast in a separate room. As for the room, I have to say, I was underwhelmed. Although it is supposed to be dated, as it is a castle, the room could have been updated. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall and and the bed creaked. The room also smelled of dog. As for the staff, they overall gave a good service, especially Frankie at breakfast and Emma, who were great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with a dog.
The castle hotel indeed is beautiful, just a few miles from central Edinburgh. The reception staff was a bit cold when we checked in. We were disappointed that the receptionist didn't inform us there was going to be a huge wedding in the evening and if we would like to change to a more quiet room location since the given room was located right above the venue. Later we went down to the lobby to ask if we were able to change the room. By then it was a different staff we assume it's more like manager level, who was nice enough to upgrade the room for us.
I chose this hotel because it is dog friendly. a very charming place to stay for the night in a castle where you feel all this unique charm. the staff was very friendly everyone made a very nice welcome to little Freya, she even got a cookie. there is a special small arena in the hotel where you can come with your pet for dinner or breakfast. Very good food and high class drinks. we will definitely return to the castle again, hoping for a longer stay. I will recommend this place to everyone
