Medlar Restaurant

Food was very good, although not as dizzyingly high as some reviews might suggest. Perhaps, being a Monday, the top chefs are not in the house? The waiters were wonderful and engaging. The venue is very nice. I would definitely go back, as I think there is more to come from the food.

Excellent quality and inventive cooking. Sliced veal starter followed by lamb fillet and tongue. Very reasonably priced lunch menu and corkage deal. A must for gourmets with good claret in their cellar.

In my option Medlar is good quality ingredients cooked well, but nothing taste or combination wise that will excite the adventurous diner. I feel it’s aimed at the old school rich diner that doesn’t want extravagant flavours, just hearty food done perfectly. I personally like to spend my money in a place that is exciting and provides me with new taste experiences. Feed back - sommelier only made one suggestion when we asked for his advice and went straight to the top of the price range we’d suggested. I expect a couple of suggestions price and style wise and to be asked what I’m eating if they are to make a suitable suggestion. Raw scallop starter was tiny, unnecessarily so Our wine glasses kept being overfilled.

Stunning food and wine in a relaxed, informal setting. The staff are fantastic too.
