Bill's Kensington Restaurant

Visited here last week for a quick lunch whilst in Kensington and before going to the Design Museum. The restaurant is located just inside the entrance to Kensington High Street tube station. There was no problem getting a table as the restaurant was not too busy. I placed my order after eventually getting the attention of the waitress. Sadly they did not have either Bills IPA or Bills Beer available which I didn’t think was too good considering they are signature drinks so I had to choose an alternative. I ordered the Bills Hamburger and added cheese. My food came quickly and it was well cooked and fairly tasty overall and came with a small basket of fries. No one asked how my food was whilst I was eating, only when my waitress came to take away my plate did she check! I thought the service and the staff on the day I visited were somewhat disorganised and no one seemed to really know what their role was. I have been to a Bills before, different location, and my experience then was much better than on this occasion.

I do enjoy going to Bills for breakfast, however the branch in Kensington I was extremely not impressed with the service. I sat at the table for 15 minutes without anyone coming over and taking my order. It was very clear that I had not ordered as the menus were still visibly on the table. Staff walked past on several occasions but chose not to acknowledge us. Now I am not one to complain but if I did not ask to order I don’t think they staff would have come over. Again we sat at there having to wait for staff to clear our table. I asked for the bill then had to wait a further 10 minutes for the card machine. If the restaurant was busy or they were understaffed I could understand but it wasn’t. I don’t think I will be visiting again anytime soon.

Stable breakfast place! Most of the food is good. Friendly service. Scones are not the best though. Kids / family friendly.

OK food, burger looked great and tasty. I had lamb shank which was a bit manufactured. Overall nice place and good atmosphere. Make sure you have a burger.

Very disappointing experience here for breakfast one morning. While the food was good (and it has been on any visit) the staff were very unhelpful, telling us that they would not seat out small group, even with larger groups already there. Tea was also a fiasco and undrinkable. When we requested a fresh, second pot of tea we were given a tea pot half filled with hot water but no tea bags. Staff chose to rectify this by simply adding a single tea bag to the already filled pot of water, but would not offer a freshly brewed pot. This is very much in contradiction of tea brewing standards. To add insult to injury, the bill came with the discretionary service charge added, despite us making it known that we were displeased with the service and attitudes of staff. Needless to say, we did not pay the service charge as we did not feel it had been earned. It is a shame that front of house staff let this establishment down, as the food was tasty and well thought out.
