This is a city that deserves naming twice! The old, and the new, melded so well together by its people. Too much to see, to do, to enjoy in just one visit. So it's good that it is easily accessible by road and rail. However you get there you are certain to receive a warm welcome. I did, and I'm going again, soon.
Leeds Station is a huge train station, serving Leeds city centre. It has had a lot of money spent on it throughout the years, but the never-ending construction, which seems to have been going on forever, makes it feel like a building site. It can be hard to navigate around the multiple entrances and around the station in general at the best of times, but the construction makes it so much worse to even get inside. It’s the second busiest train station in the North, after Manchester Piccadilly.nnParts of the station have views of the water at Granary Wharf, which can be quite pretty and make it feel unique.nnThere’s a good number of brands in the station, including Sainsbury’s Local, Starbucks, McDonald’s and LEON, making it a place you can head to for some essentials, a quick bite to eat or a coffee, even if you’re not heading on the train.nnA large and spacious train station in the city centre with good facilities, with a nice mix of old and new parts of the building.
Just a gorgeous station. Designed well. Quirky and different.. canal underneath.. lots of indoor out. Easy access to main roads. Liked this place and had no issues
Although leeds railway station is seeing even more & more newer & modern passenger trains, It's still an absolute pleasure to come across these imposing classic ex-BR InterCity 225 high speed trains that are surprisingly still in service to this very day since they first came about under British Rail in the late 1980s & early 90s,nnHere are my photos I took of two of these incredible British-built passenger trains at the modern yorkshire railway station that forever serves our historic yet lively white rose city of leeds for future generations.
Leeds Railway StationnnLeeds is a large, busy station that handles the crowds well. One thing I really like is the number of entrances and exits, which makes getting in and out of the station after arriving much easier than at many others.nnI also found the railway staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. When I asked about my departure, they knew exactly where I needed to be and pointed me in the right direction without any fuss.nnUnfortunately, the toilets that were open weren't particularly clean, which let the station down a little.nnDuring my visit, there was also an unpleasant incident where two intoxicated individuals were chasing railway staff around and trying to start a fight. While this was clearly the fault of those individuals rather than the station itself, it was unsettling to witness. After seeing that, I couldn't help but feel the station would benefit from a more visible security presence at all times to help everyone feel safer.nnOne area where Leeds falls behind other major stations is its appearance. Compared with stations like Liverpool Lime Street and King's Cross, the exterior feels quite drab and lacks the impressive, welcoming feel that those stations have.nnOverall, Leeds is a well-organised station with helpful staff and good access throughout. Better toilet cleanliness, increased security, and a more inviting exterior would make the experience even better.
