Stella Mitchell (founder and owner) :

"The Museum is the result of a lifetime's work. I realised , when a student , that other museums were ignoring the lives, experiences, possessions, hopes and dreams of the 'ordinary' people of Britain. I was always fired with the desire to right this wrong; and fuelled with the artistic need to create something of merit that might knock just a few people's socks off!

My husband Dave is an 'enabler' or regal proportion and capability. When we joined forces in 1985 the way forward became clear. Our first Museum was open to the public from 1991- We have run it on a web of a shoestring ever since- no sign of funding (but we didn't look too hard). Remember, 99% of it has been chosen by myself over the last 45 years and paid for on a bank over-draft that ebbs like the sea.

The collection increases daily, and the displays are reconfigured and titivated annually.

Our Cafe "Icons" is run by Sue Boobyer and is a separate business, it is open in conjuction with 'Land of Lost Content' and can be hired as part of a party package for private functions. On the occasional evening we offer food, music, quizzes etc. We hope you enjoy your visit."

Lose yourself in a bygone age and perhaps bring back memories of your own child hood.

Wonderful and idiosyncratic collection of fascinating ordinary and extraordinary items. Several visits needed to see it all: floors, walls and ceilings are all backdrops for the displays. Something for everyone

I have visited a fair few museums of various themes and collections but I have to say, this was by far the most detailed, impressive, interesting and genuinely relatable.  Don't be fooled by it's humble extiror. The moment you enter you are overwhelmed by just how much you can see purely upon arrival. We were greeted by Stella, owner and creator and award winning pure artist. A paid £5 each - which apparently some people had complained was TOO MUCH previously. Coming from the South we were genuinely surprised it was this cheap for this much content.  Stella provided a handy guide to ensure you follow the themed areas and floors accordingly. There are handwritten descriptions all over the museum as well as numbered plates to let you know where abouts you are; the areas are so brilliantly collaborated that you shouldn't need guidance but they're extremely handy none the less. I almost want to stop walking through as I think it's best to arrive and explore for yourselves just as we did but I have to say the collections are incredible. The themes will ignite an interest in even the most releluctant of museum go-ers. Themes include pop culture, film and television, home, lifestyle and Wartime.  Stella has created a work of art. One that should be seen by all. Her hard work is consistent and evident in every aspect of the museum and I personally could have stayed all day not only browsing and inspecting each display carefully but also talking with Stella who was more than friendly, interesting, intelligent and talented.  Never before have I visited a museum more in sync with what I love in regards to history and popular British living. I challenge anyone to visit and leave without commenting that they themselves or a close relative has owned or admired at least 5 items inside. I spent the visit in awe reminiscing items that have passed through my own family as well as revelling in the nostalgia of a time I was too late to enjoy. Thank you Stella for capturing the real Britian, the real culture and the real personal emotion that goes with every item. Who knew a Hoover could evoke such emotion!  Incredible. Thank you. You will be rightfully recognised for this one day; you deserve it.
