Kennacott House is a great size for a large family getaway, with good space for parking and a large rear garden. The building needs a lot of TLC as the conservatory roof and a window in the dining area leak, leaving puddles of water. The overall cleanliness needs working on as we had dead flies in the bathroom and a lot of dust/cobwebs around the property. There was also only 1 out of 4 showers working which was not acceptable when there are 10 people in the property. The outside areas were untidy and we had to pick up quite a few rusty screws due to having 3 dogs walking around. The rooms are a good size and the bedding was clean. The location is excellent with lovely views. The swimming pool is still not completed and the tennis courts could do with being updated, as only 1 court is playable. The badminton court and snooker table are not free, as they charge for the usage of the lights. We were very disappointed that we could not use the golf course due to overgrown grass, which looks like it hasn't been played on for a while. The outside waste bins were already full and overflowing when we arrived and were not emptied during our stay. I do not think the facilities are worth the prices charged especially with so many amenities not being available.
I imagine once upon a time this was a nice place to stay... However, it is now in a sad state of disrepair and a far cry from the "Luxury Cottages" they advertise. We spent three nights at the property. The site is littered with rubbish from overflowing skips & bins. The children's play areas are in roped off and there are piles of building material/rubble lying around making it an unsafe place for children to play. Builders work working onsite at antisocial times post 9pm. The room was dirty with rubbish left in from the previous guests. We booked trough Air B&B and while responsive, there was no direct communication with the owner. It appears this is in fact a management company not involved in the day to day running. I would advise against staying here. There are much better alternatives at a similar price nearby.
**I have not stayed here**, my review is in connection to how the staff treated my mother on the phone when she queried the cottage demanding a deposit by giving bank details and giving ID copies over email before even arriving at the cottages. A member of staff called 'Kelly' was extremely rude and very unhelpful on the phone. Their 'system' when booked through a third party is quite harsh for want of a better word you are warned that you'll be charged £10 for every hour that you're late, no refunds, no cancellations, no changing the booking. It's meant to be a nice place to stay in a nice part of the world, but from our initial experience, it isn't. Chances our my mum will lose her money for the booking, but she won't be staying there, and I hope anyone who reads this won't either.
Beautiful location, lovely views. Very nice surroundings. We arrived no one was there to greet us, called the number on the reception door and the lady very nicely explained how to check in, she said she was on the other side of the site which I discovered later was not far at all to come and meet us, never saw the owner during our stay. We stayed in Crooklets which seems to be the one cottage that has most photos of on the website. I had seen the reviews about the place being dated but that's an understatement! See photos, the sofas were so old and uncomfortable to sit on, if they could talk I am sure they would have stories! The carpets really need to be changed and the whole place needs a lick of paint however it could be cleaned properly. Mildew on the wall in the shower room, in between the tiles, spiders and cobwebs everywhere. When I got to use the plates and cutlery they had food on them, all dirty, I had to wash everything before using. The dishwasher only worked every other day even if I put it on the same cycle. Due to our son being disabled we chose this place as the bedroom was downstairs however we had to make sure he did not trip on the carpet gripper see photos After 2 nights sleeping in an uncomfortable bed I had really bad backache and even my teenage daughter complained of the same. The playroom was nice to escape to and plenty of VHS to choose from in there! I was told a couple of weeks before our trip by our provider that the pool was not going to be refurbished on time for our trip I had previously checked this and was told it should be fine from what I have seen it's far from being refurbished any time soon. I am a full time carer, an expensive stay like this is meant to be relaxing and a real treat, this was the opposite, luckily the weather was mostly nice so we did our best not to be in there too much and too long.
This could be really nice. Very well situated and beautiful views. Land is not well maintained though which is shame.Rooms: 3/5
We believe that we were seriously misled about the outside amenities provided. Although the house was in an excellent setting, very spacious and the kitchen well equipped, when we booked the holiday it offered a swimming pool – which apparently has been closed for two years and doesn’t look as though it will be open for a long time not even tiled yet, with childrens play area and sauna also closed. We were belatedly advised of these problems. However, we were assured three days before our visit that all other amenities were open. However, the 6 hole golf course was a joke. It was totally unplayable uncut and sapplings already growing on the fairway. The putting green was also unplayable. The gym was permanently locked. The tennis courts were dangerous due to moss making them very slippery. The badminton gear was broken and unuseable – and lighting for badminton chargable. The wi-fi kept dropping out. Outside waste bins were already full and overflowing when we arrived; and never emptied during our stay. Clearly the owners have paid almost zero attention to the outside areas yet continue to use them as selling points of the site. We will be seeking legal advice, as no compensation offered
This review relates to the management of a booking, and the subsequent communication from staff towards their customers. My family booked a stay, and on the day they were due to arrive received a dozen or so quite threatening emails. Apparently if you don’t arrive dead on the arrival time, you are charged £10 per hour. What nonsense? There were also emails demanding the ID’s of every person staying at the accommodation - which is very alarming. Phone calls were exchanged where my family detailed their concerns over these emails, and a female called Kelly surname unknown - she refused to provide this saying it was the law she didn’t need to. When asked what legislation this came from, she told my mother - who is a solicitor - to ‘google it’ … very professional Kelly was very hostile and unhelpful. My family decided not to go through with their stay, god knows what would have been waiting for us upon arrival. The film taken springs to mind. P.S. Kelly, your surname is a form of ID, you know, ID.. the thing you were emailing us for. Google it.
Angry falls short of how I feel. We booked a dog-friendly single bedroom property at Kennacott Court, paid the money and were later told that the company had cancelled our booking because they had decided to add an additional bedroom to the property and it would no longer be dog-friendly. We persevered and booked a two-bedroom dog-friendly property, still at Kennacott Court, and paid the full amount. With ten days to go to the holiday, we received the email stating that maintenance work had over run because of Covid and they had once again cancelled our booking. It's a shame because we had been several times before and had always been happy, even recommending it to friends. I will not give them my business again. When a holiday is booked, you look forward to going. I couldn't do that now - not knowing if the booking will be cancelled again. Twice in a row? You won't catch me a third time.
New kitchen, new flooring, newly decorated. Shame pool isn't ready but there are plenty other things to do with kids. Badminton Court, pool table, table tennis, basketball, tennis court etc. We bought our dog here, lots of nice walks around cottage, and it's a few minutes drive to the beach. Feel like a home away from home.Rooms: 5/5
We have just returned from the most lovely holiday here. 4 adults and 3 children ranging from 4 to 13 years. Lots to do within a 30 minute drive, nice and private house with loads of space and everything you could possibly need. The place was spotless and had a lovely private garden. They even have body boards and wind breaks if you need to borrow them. Friendly staff too. Only issue was that the pool wasn't open as COVID delayed the work they were doing, but we knew that beforehand and glad we stayed anyway. Would absolutely stay here again, loved it. Thank you!
