Great day out for all the family. Lots of interesting things to see and experience. If you want to read a lot of the boards then arrive early, there's a lot of them. We were lucky enough to have visited on a day where the last Little Mester (possibly), was working. He was in the process of making a knife handle I believe, amazing to see a man of almost 92 years of age working at such high level of skill. I would suggest at least 3 hours should be allowed for a good look round and would recommend arriving in time to see the River Don steam engine demonstration. It doesn't last too long but was good to see how it worked before it retired. There is a cafe which we didn't visit, toilets on site and a small gift shop area with reasonable prices. There is plenty of seating around the museum which is ideal for those who struggle to stand for long periods of time and lifts for wheelchairs and prams are available to the higher levels.

We got married at a Kelham Island Museum on 5/8/17. We knew we wanted to get married at the museum from the moment we laid eyes on it. It is such a unique and beautiful building, there was no doubt that this was the wedding venue for us. Previous venues have told us “this is what you have to do on your day, this is how we do it.” Where as all the staff at the museum told us “we will do whatever you want for your day!” Everyone that we dealt with during the planning and the day were so kind, helpful and flexible. Choosing to get married at the museum was defiantly the best choice we made regarding our wedding! If you are looking for an unique, flexible and amazing venue for your wedding, please visit them! You will not be disappointed.

Plenty to see, very Sheffield. Live steam engine reversing is impressive. Transport section has locally made cars that are worth a look. Bacon and sausage barm was very good too!
