A wonderful museum detailing the history of steel making and the making of tools and of the cutlery trade in Sheffield. Helpful friendly staff. You can wander at your leisure or have guided tour. No entry charge but donations welcomed. Small car parking further on past the museum entrance. The Museum is a ten minute walk from Shalesmoor blue tram stop.
Went to the Victorian Christmas Market this weekend and it was brilliant. Some great live performances on show and some fantastic stalls with education around what they were selling and about the hsitory of Sheffield. A brilliant day out and lots of good food stalls to choose from too!
This is fantastic if you are an engineer or interested in the history of steel making.nLots of great exhibits the best of which are the large steam engine which you can see running it made me tingle watching it. Also a Crossley engine that turns over showing how these things worked plus plenty more things check out their website. Suggested payment is £5 which is frankly very low for the display on show. You must go
Great museum, well worth a visit to find out more about industry in Sheffield. At 2pm they run the steam engine that is well worth watching. Free entry and accepts donations, don’t forget to complete your gift aid if donating. Staff were very nice and very helpful. Toilets are clean, well stocked and tidy. Cafe is good for a coffee and cake, like other museum cafes a little expensive but well worth it. There is a kids activity sheet to complete and some hands on exhibits and a little dress up area too so kids will like it here. Not one negative to our experience. Suitable for all ages. Free parking or 10 to 15 minute walk to town.
A must visit for technology and history buffs when in Sheffield. While the museum is free, donations are welcomed. I spent a good deal of time here just exploring and absorbing the steel industry. Who knew that aside from armoury and steel plating, sheffield was also famous for cutlery and other steel based utensils including pocket knives! Friendly staff just enhanced the whole experience. You also get to see the huge steam engine made for rolling steel and which they turn on allow to run on Thursdays to Sundays. Check the times as I missed seeing it run having visited on Wednesday. Still an amazing site to behold!! Love the visit and I highly recommend it.
