A Truly Magnificent Experience at Kai Mayfair It is worthy of Michelin star it has earned. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of elegance, with stunning decor that perfectly complements the culinary journey ahead. The service was impeccable, staff members were not only kind but also exceptionally attentive, ensuring that every detail of our meal was perfect. My favourite starter was salt/pepper Squid, tasted best wherever I have tried them. Barnsley lamb was top tier.Their warmth and professionalism added a personal touch to the entire dining experience. As for the food, it was simply extraordinary. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing an incredible balance of flavors and textures. The culinary craftsmanship was evident in every bite, making it clear why Kai Mayfair is held in such high esteem. Overall, world-class cuisine come together to create a truly magnificent evening.
Kai Mayfair offers a pleasant atmosphere and decent food, but it falls short in both value and service. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, which was crispy and nicely done, but the Wagyu dish left me disappointed. The portion size was tiny, especially for the steep price—definitely not what you'd expect for a one-star restaurant. The service was also lacking. Our waiter seemed irritated when we asked several questions about the menu, which dampened the overall experience. For the high prices, I was expecting more attentive service and better value. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible meal, but for what you pay, I expected a lot more. 2/5.
This place has gone downhill since my last visit a few years ago. I ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was really over done and dry, I could have made better at home. They were also informed I was dairy free but for some reason they served me a special birthday dessert, I asked if it was dairy free and the checked and told me it wasn't and they told my partner to tell me what it tasted like. Honestly shocking for a Michelin starred restaurant. I will not return.
Dining at Kai was a treat, with several standout dishes. The sweet and sour pork was the best I’ve had—perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. The open bao appetizer was fantastic, and the coconut mango and durian ice creams were a memorable end to the meal. The cocktails were skillfully made and added to the experience. However, a few items felt overpriced, especially compared to other high-end spots. While the abalone, cocktails, and even plain rice didn’t quite justify their price tags, the overall quality and unique flavors make Kai worth a visit.
We had an amazing meal here on a special occasion. The soft shell crab to start with was perfectly light and crispy, with the nuts and mango topping complimenting it. The chilli lobster was wonderfully done as well, the sauce was fantastic and the crispy bread paired so well. The black pepper beef and the fried rice were also good, but didn't stand out as much as the other dishes did. The dessert was surprisingly our favourite part - the pandan crème brulé blended in so many flavours so well, from the Malaysian coffee ice cream to the milo powder, it all just worked amazingly together. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, especially the lunch menu. It's clear why they have maintained their Michelin star for so long.
A brilliant experience to say the least. The food was exquisitely served and meticulously prepared. We tried a duck dish and the Lobster & Lobster. Both were incredibly tasty and filling. The Nest of the Celestial Dragon is a highly recommended dessert in my view. We had our usual favourites from the Mocktail range:
We love our experience in Kai. The decor is nice and well thought out. Our aromatic duck came in two types of wrap and the duck meat was tender and delicious. We also had the wasabi prawn and lobster noodles. Highly recommended.
I’m sorry I didnt take proper food pics, once the food came, I set my phone down and just enjoyed. The duck, the duck, the duck! Oh lord the duck was insane!!! The black pepper beef was also incredible and the chicken nanyang chicken. This was a truly remarkable dining experience, service was good but not necessarily memorable. Overall I really rate this place as one of my go too Chinese restaurants. Thank you
Kai Mayfair is a luxurious dining experience situated in the heart of Mayfair, London. I visited Kai with my Fiance for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. I have visited before and was glad to see that the standard of service and food had been maintained. The restaurant's elegant decor sets the tone for a sophisticated meal. The attentive staff ensures a top-notch service, and the menu offers a delightful fusion of Chinese and Japanese cuisine. Each dish is beautifully presented and bursting with flavours. The cocktails were lovely and complemented the meal. Kai Mayfair is a must-visit for those seeking a memorable dining experience in a refined setting. It is not a vibey/jumpy atmosphere so dont go there expecting tones of entertainment it is definitely a more chilled vibe.
A good restaurant offering Chinese classics at a good standard. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, their dessert selection was enticing with different options to choose from such as a salted caramel soufflé. I'm overall giving 4 stars because I got good dishes that were well cooked but did not exceed my expectations from a 1 Michelin star restaurant. I would recommend the restaurant to reduce its large selection of vegetables, meat and fish to focus on unique tasting style dishes that tell the story of the region they represent. Overall, you'd have a good meal but perhaps as you would in any other good Chinese restaurant. Vegetarian options: The entire menu has a vegetarian copy. Dietary restrictions: They use a lot of sesame and nuts. They were able to accommodate our allergies but not the easiest restaurant to navigate allergy requirements.
