In short: barely any better than buying online and expect a hard sell on extras.
My visit was a weekday lunchtime but there was a member of staff available to help (which is good). I explained what I was looking for and was pretty quickly was pointed at the product I had initially suggested (I had done my research so I was pretty sure what was correct for me). I then asked if I could look at the product (which was boxed and not on display) at which point I was asked "are you going to buy it today?". I confirmed if I was satisfied I would, but I was a bit annoyed at the question as I got the distinct impression that if I had said any other response I would have been given the cold shoulder.
So reluctantly the camera was given to me and after 5 minutes I decided to go ahead with the purchase. At this point the hard-sell on extras started; filters, memory cards (very overpriced, even Argos around the corner sells the same cards for a lot less) and naturally, a "protection plan" which costs about £60 a year. I was interested in any of this and made it quite clear, yet I had to refuse the protection plan at least 3 times before the sales assistant finally got the message. Presumably his commission had been affected by this as he was clearly disgruntled at this outcome.
I left the shop not exactly a happy customer; OK, I got the camera I wanted at a reasonable price, but I found the whole customer experience a bit poor. This isn't the first high(ish) value item I've bought there either and my previous experience, a few years ago, was extremely similar.

Top notch shop, top notch service and a top price, just slightly more than the cheapest on the internet. Well worth the extra for the relatively close back up if needed. I will shop here again and can recommended Jessops on all levels. Parking is nearby but far from convenient and I wish there was a store in Rochdale but full marks anyway.

Really great service, took a bit of time to get my film developed but fair play to them it was rare film and they kept me in the loop with what was going on the whole time, not to pricy as well and overall a great bunch of people, if you need film developed, go here.

Was looking for advice on tripods and filters and the guy in store who was there for Fujifilm was brilliant, very willing to share his expertise and make recommendations across a variety of price ranges. The store's range itself was really good and I wouldn't hesitate to shop here again.
