I stayed for a week and the price is cheap if you make reservations on Booking. Something my girlfriend told me is that in the women's bathroom on the second floor there is water on the floor every day. Maybe there is a broken pipe. Cleanliness is good, the restaurant next door has a varied buffet. The smell of the place is not bad as I read, but some lemon or other scent would be good.
I have been to several hostels with lockers; this one doesn't have lockers. Instead, valuable baggage is left with reception, who uses tags on bags, and tags can fray. Each room has a shower, which is more convenient if you want to be closer to your valuables. The power points are not close enough to the beds; this requires one to use the recreation lounge. There is a café, though. I haven't tried it yet, and I would give it a try eventually. Rooms: Don't expect Luxury from a hostel. If you're just here to save costs, then make the best of it. Walkability: There is a nearby railway station, with links to central London, Wembley, Harrow, and Watford.
This is not a hostel for tourists. It is a flop house for people addicted to hard drugs and a money making operation for gangsters who loot the rooms. I spoke to several people living here long term because they had no other option than the streets. I felt so sorry for them. I was booked in for a week but had to leave after 1 night because this place was so terrifying. There were people high on crack, weapons and drug dealers. People accost you in the hallways. The bathroom pipes leak raw sewage so the stench was everywhere. The rooms smell like high school gym changing rooms but worse. I still see this place in my nightmare, the dimly lit halls with scary murals and the feeling of being in the room while people keep trying to break in all night. Please do not ignore the reviews, women are not safe here, NO ONE is safe here. Safety: I have travelled around the world and this is one of the only places I have genuinely felt unsafe
Not the Dorchester, and it could probably do with a lick of paint, but I like it! Yes, it's a little bit rough around the edges, but it's a very good value choice for a few days in very expensive London. In fact, it's THE best value in London for an overnight stay imo. I'm not a tourist, I work all over the city and used to just use Air BnBs and Travelodges etc near where I worked but as that became increasingly unaffordable and unjustifiable, I started using hostels so I know a fair bit about the London hostel situation as is. This hostel has excellent connections via an overground/underground bakerloo station Kensal Green, literally 2 minutes from the hostel, which is very helpful especially if you have a lot of luggage which can be stored free for that day if there's space and £2 per day overnight. The staff are super nice shout out to Victoria, Anca, and Co! caring and helpful. And there's 24-hour security at reception if you are, say, a single female and feeling a little intimidated by the hostel. And the rooms are sex segregated. Of the rooms, the bottom floor ones are as far as I know the nicest with their own bathrooms as opposed to a cubicle like shower in the corner in the others which took a little getting used to. The rooms I've been in are adequate, and the beds are comfortable, which is not always garunteed in more expensive hostels, I can tell you. And there's usually an available socket to charge your phone, etc, but not always next to the bed itself. As always with hostels, there's an element of luck involved, good & bad, because you're going to be sharing a room with strangers. It doesn't matter where you are, if you're in the room with a heavy snorer, it's going to affect your stay. But strangely enough, this hasn't happened to me in this one apart for one time & I was able to move. Again, it's pot luck on that front. It's near a number of supermarkets further up Harrow Road, including a Co-Op, about 10 minutes away, and a garage open 24 hrs a further 10 minutes up for late night purchases. For the more adventurous, there's a nice walk down to Sheperds Bush and Westfield, which talks about 40 minutes and passes a large Sainsbury's in ladbroke grove by the canal, and Harlesden is about 25 minutes walk in the other direction. But there's the overground to both destinations and lots of bus connections too. As a single male, I've never had any problems here, nor have I seen any, and I have enjoyed my stays every time.
I like the place, such a warm building, not expensive and friendly. It is getting better through days. I was there for 2 weeks and I did spend a great time there, it's just for what it is... Even the cleaners are nice people, the girl from the morning shift who is from Argentina me hizo sentir como en mi casa Rooms: 5/5
A white lady at the front desk was truly the rudest person I’ve met. She played a loud hip hop music so that when anyone asks her question she don’t have to hear it. When I asked her a question politely, she stopped the music acting like she was so annoyed with me. If you’re getting paid at least do your freaking jobRooms: 1/5
First the positive. The hostel is very inexpensive and easy to reach by subway or bus. The staff is very nice and very helpful. They really put a lot of effort into me. If I had any questions, the staff answered them for me. When I asked where the nearest supermarket was, an employee walked me outside and explained the way. The supermarket is a three-minute walk away where you can stock up on all the groceries you need for your daily consumption. I had a room for two people with my own shower and toilet. On the negative side: The window in my room couldn't be opened completely because some guests had damaged it beforehand. The bunk bed is fine for sleeping, but the ladder was too narrow and the entrance was a few centimeters away from the ladder, which didn't make it any easier to climb onto the top of the bed. In addition, the heating switches on at night and you don't have the option to turn it off. The hostel is in need of some renovation. Conclusion: I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap hostel on Harrow Road. Because apart from these little things, it's a great experience there. And if you want more comfort, you have to dig deeper into your wallet. It was very satisfactory for my stay and my plans Rooms: I had a room for two people and it was clean, it didn't smell. The shower and toilet in the room were clean Walkability: Whether you travel to the hostel by subway or bus, you arrive within a few minutes Food & drinks: You have to cater for yourself, but you can get delicious food at the restaurant next to the hostel
I made a booking here and tried to check in. The woman behind the counter asked me for the card used to make the booking, handed it back to me then accused me of having stolen it. She called a male colleague over and he then started standing over me, obviously trying to intimidate me. She told me that she would not be accepting my stay but then asked me for my card again. When I asked her what the point is if she won't be allowing me to stay she said "See?" so since I had nothing to hide, I gave her back the card. She then told me that she would not be giving it back because she did not know if it was really mine, told me to sit down and then appeared to make a call, presumably to the police. She then called me back over to give the card back and again declared "This card is stolen". I can only assume the police told her that she had no evidence for her claims and refused to entertain her stupidity. I of course asked for a refund, so she asked to see the card again. After all this dodginess I of course refused, so she refused to refund my booking. If she genuinely believed I am a fraudster who took someone else's card, then this would appear to contradict that belief; why the heck would you refuse a refund just because the "fraudster" didn't want to give you the card back? The only explanation I can come up with for this is racial profiling, as she thinks it is impossible for someone with my face to have my name. Avoid these scum!
nice employees and friendly. but that's the only positive. photos are misleading. there are few nice rooms, most of them are ugly, dirty, smelly. It looks like a prison. The shower is in the room, small, one has to squeeze in there. the toilets were dirty and smelly for 4 whole days. Clogged toilets and excrement on cabin walls. the restaurant was closed for 4 days, the wi-fi almost didn’t work. worst hostel i have ever seen. Safety: homeless people, weird people, smelly people and some were racist. Walkability: 20m a far is train/ underground station and bus station. Food & drinks: Restaurant/ bar was still closed.
I’ve stayed at a ton of poorly rated places over the last year as I’ve backpacked around the world, but this is the only place that I truly felt unsafe. If you are female, do not stay here, even in a private room, as you will encounter essentially homeless or drunk or drugged out men in the narrow dark hallways when you need to use the bathroom or when you are coming home to your room. Multiple times, instead of walking straight to my room, I had to quickly walk a weird roundabout way to lose a creepy guy following me. I stayed here with my partner also female for 3 nights in a private room without a private toilet. One night someone tried to get into our room but luckily I had locked the door handle no deadbolt present. I would never stay here again. If you’re still reading, I assume you’re a guy. The rest of this review is for you. I read the reviews before booking this place, and I assumed a lot of the bad reviews were just picky people, as is usually the case with places I book. Nope, this place was the dirtiest I’ve encountered in my travels as well. The toilets will not flush after someone else has used it recently, so they are clogged with paper and poop and unusable, and so the halls stink. There were guys coughing and puking in the toilets all hours of the night all 3 nights we were there, which you can hear through the paper thin walls of the rooms. The “kitchen” is one tiny room at the end of a narrow hallway on the 3rd floor. The room is maybe 6ft by 6ft and was so gross we didn’t go back, even though we wanted to take a picture for this review. Imagine a steamy room with no ventilation, wet fogged windows, and the only cabinet is under the sink. So all the plates/cups/cooking implements are stored under the sink in a puddle. There was, no joke, only one single coffee mug for the whole place, and it was cracked. This is also the only sink in the place that doesn’t have a Not Safe to Drink sign. Instead of going back for that, we just used our water purifier from our travel in Asia with the sink in our room. I’m surprised this place hasn’t been shut down. Rooms: Each room has a shower and a sink. The sink has a sign alerting you that the water is not safe to drink. The cold water pressure in the sink was so low that you couldn’t use that tap. The heater was on high without a way to modify so we had to sleep with the windows open. This let all the cigarette smoke from people hanging out in front of the building waft into the room, and all the loud conversation and road noise kept waking us up. Safety: Not a safe place for a woman to stay. Period.
