We booked through 5pm.co.uk two courses and a small house wine £19 per head. We entered the Metro Brasserie and were greeted by Mario and explained we had booked with 5pm.co.uk and explained the menu option err had chosen. We were seated at the window beside a radiator that thankfully wasn’t on, and given the menu option we had chosen. I ordered the Haggis Bon Bon and Balmoral Chicken. We added a second glass of wine each and I decided on desserts of Peach Tart and Butterscotch Ice Cream finished off with a Illy Coffee. The staff were all attentive and very pleasant. There was a knife from a previous sitting under the table and when the second glasses of wine arrived I was surprised that waiting staff didn’t clear the previous empties. Those are the only faults I could find. Great location, friendly staff, good food and reasonable prices, even without the definitely visit again.
Visited here one sunny sunday afternoon with Good friends... tasty steak, lovely chunky fries. Bearnaise sauce.. washed down by a lovely bottle of red...served by lovely friendly waitress..perfect spot for watching the world go by, also fantastic view of the back of Edinburgh Castle
Staying at the apex city of Edinburgh which is sister hotel up the road we’re told we can use apex Grassmarket so went down to try breakfast was told it’s super busy was not at least 12 tables empty it’s small restaurant when the lady found out we were staying at apex up the road oh if you wait 10 mins we will have a table still 12 tables empty terrible service considering the apex we stayed at we couldn’t fault
We waited 20min for the order to be taken.we left as the staff just ignored us. 0 professionalism. 0 smiles. 20min lost. I don’t recommend Terrible staff
Starters were okay, Crispy squid nice, haggis bon bon was alright. Mains were, Over cooked Risotto, Over cooked Vegetables, soggy fish skin, soggy Chicken Skin, bland & under Seasoned altogether, With about half a kilo of new potatoes on my plate. Chocolate Torte was good Cheese plate... there was no description of what I was given, so I'm unsure of what cheese I ate, but honestly it looked and tasted like 4 different varieties of Cheddar. All of which pretty much tasted the same. Not even a blue cheese or a brie? That's just basic.
This is in the Apex hotel. It has a modern setting but full glass windows looking out on a classic street making for good people watching. We had the pre fix menu meals and they were really good. The Haggis starter and haddock starters were very tasty. I had the flank steak and my wife had the chicken. All prepared very well. The chocolate pot cake dessert was a nice finish. All and all a good night out.
Interesting menu inspired by Scotland with Asian flavours. Tried few different dishes as the menu is Tapas styled although not to the same extent. Tikka chips were great, so was bangra sliders. Would recommend the place but would like bit more Indian flavours.
Spacious, modern and friendly atmosphere. Attentive, helpful and enthusiastic staff added to the dining experience. And the food, out off this world for taste and quality and reasonably priced. This was my wife's birthday treat and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Disappointed at the staffs' lack of understanding of gluten and wheat allergies. We were told menu items were suitable, but when questioning further it was clear there was wheat in the dish doughnut dish was offered!? or that there may be contamination e.g. same fryer used. Staff did consult what i suspect was an allergen list in the process but it was clear they did not understand it and they refused to let us see it to clarify which left us with no confidence that dishes offered would be suitable. We decided to leave and had some nice mexican street food across the road. Expected better from a restaurant with Tony's name.
Being Sikh myself I thought I would give it a try before I left for Leeds. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is very tasty especially the chilli chicken on fries. Was also very reasonably priced. Will be definitely returning when I visit Edinburgh again.
