Very good! Service was impeccable and quick. My only complain was I didn't love the cake as much as I thought I would. Everything else was delicious!
Cosy little cafe right beside Frankenstein pub. Very good prices for delicious food. Was quiet when we visited while quickly got busy not loud, however. Great view of the street, perfect for people-watching. Looks more like a diner than a cafe, could use a retouch.Food: 5/5
One of the few cafe that open early. Nice place Friendly staff The best Scottish breakfast that I ever had. White coffee was really good too Highly recommended!!
Very good English/ Scottish breakfast; the best way to start the day. Varied choice of lunch and afternoon tea items to keep you going. Attentive service with a smile. Very welcoming. Visited 13 & 14 Sep 2021
Barely interested in serving me to begin with, then ripped off by naming their own extortionate price for a simple croissant, £2.75 as lited on the board, then demanded £5 in total for microwaved croissant, a butter and tiny portion of jam, not listed as far as l could see, and which wasnt asked for. Indifferent to any questioning as to their pricing, or service.
We came across this little place last week and would definitely recommend it. The food was lovely and the service very friendly and welcoming. Great variety on the menu for such a little cafe and nice cosy atmosphere.
Advertised as Angus burger, burger was greasy, string like texture, pasty and chewy. Not like any burger I have ever tasted. Returned meal then was charged £3 or £4 for small bowl of chips, some were hard inside and had zero taste. Local but wont go back. Dissappointed as small cosy restaurant.
We'd left our nearby hotel, heading toward Victoria Street to do some shopping and decided to stop here for a quick bite and some coffee and tea. It's a tiny shop, so no surprise when the young fellow who seemed to be running the place asked if it was "eat in or carryout". He seated us immediately we didn't want to drink our coffee and tea while walking and gave us menus, taking our drink orders at the same time. I wasn't very hungry, so when he returned to take our food order, I asked for a scone. My wife, never having had haggis, asked for a roll with haggis. He smiled knowingly? and asked if either of us had ever tried haggis. We admitted we hadn't it's pretty obvious we're from the US, which opened a nice discussion about where we were from, when we got into town, how long we were going to be there. He was welcoming and friendly and seemed to be genuinely interested and clearly wasn't going to rush us. The food arrived quickly, taking no more than five minutes. My scone looked sort of like a raisin English muffin and not like the stale, crumbly, iced abominations served by Starbucks. I obviously have never had a proper scone because I found this one surprising delicious, especially with the butter and strawberry jam that came with it. My wife's haggis roll was more like a haggis "sloppy joe". The roll was the size of a hamburger bun and the haggis, from where I sat, looked like a large, flat sausage patty. I'd been expecting it to be similar in texture to scrapple and somewhat patty-like. Knowing the ingredients, I shouldn't have been surprised that it was more like a thick, chunky spread, almost like a savory steel-cut oatmeal without the stickyness. She took a bite and fell in love with it. I'll eat just about anything, yet wouldn't have ordered it myself, but did have a taste. I'd expected it to be rich and savory and, while it was both, the flavor was more delicate than I'd expected. Some black pepper and onion came through with a mixture of savory herbs. Overall quite tasty and a hearty start to a long day of walking and shopping. 10/10 would eat it again.
I visited this cafe which is now called the Angus Cafe for a quick snack. When I looked at the menu it looked too nice to miss out so ended up having a meal. The food is fresh and tasty and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. It's a small cafe on the high street which is not too expensive which is surprising considering its right in the middle of the tourist area so if you want a quick break from all the walking around Edinburgh give it a visit.
A couple of chicken paninis for the kids and a chorizo one for me hit the spot. Really friendly hosts perfect lunchtime stop!
