Back in the Seventies/eighties, I had a HIFI business in Mill Rd. I moved away from Cambridge (now retired in Chatteris) A year or two back I was in the area once again. Out of nostalgic curiosity, I called in. There was old Peter STILL THERE! We recognised each other immediately. He's just waiting to retire now. All alone in that once amazing shop. People don't do electronic stuff much these days anymore.

Starting to look pretty run-down outside now (summer 2017), not even sure if it's still open to be honest. I sort-of want to go inside but at the same I have many memories of the place in the 1980's when we used to go there for electronic components - in those days it was old Mr Gee, his wife, their son (the current Mr Gee) and a big bloke with white hair (Peter maybe?) - the aim was always to speak to him as he knew all the more obscure stuff we would be after (4000-series CMOS logic, UHF transistors, etc.). They also had some really bizarre stuff, a lot of which was probably surplus kit - I remember big (beer can size) electrolytic capacitors for next to nothing that stored enough charge to turn propelling pencil leads into carbon arc lights (for a few seconds) & old photoflash bulbs full of magnesium wire, useful for lots of things that would probably get you arrested today! I wonder if it still smells the same.

Proper shop, been there for years. He has just about everything electrical at great prices and knowledgable service. To hell with Maplins, get yourself down to Gee's of Mill Road
