This was our first visit to the Five Bells and what a delight. The atmosphere is very cozy, with a log fire and lots of candles. Old photos of the Inn and other memorabilia add to the ambiance. The menu is more creative than the usual pub grub and unusually featured lots of gluten-free options. The food was delicious and well presented. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and cleared our plates. The service was friendly and efficient, even though it was a busy Saturday lunchtime and the restaurant was full. The manager took the time to check on our experience and make sure everything was to our satisfaction. This was our first visit but it won't be our last.
We recently got married at the Secret Garden and chose the Five Bells for 2 nights for ourselves and some of our guests. Lydia, Irena and the team were very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They catered for all of our needs whilst staying with them. The rooms are romantic and cosy, with open fires and roll top baths. Nothing was too much trouble for the team and they even stayed open later for us to have some drinks in the bar after the wedding. We highly recommend the Five Bells, not just for food, but 5* service and check the rooms out too!! We will be back to see you for lunch soon! Rooms: Cosy and romantic rooms Food & drinks: Great menu - food always very good
we came in without a booking when it was heaving on a Saturday. They accommodated us and put us on a waiting list for food. When there was a long wait, the manager gave us a round of free drinks. The staff were clearly rushed off their feet but this didn’t impact the friendly service they gave. Obviously can’t give 5 stars after a 1.5hr wait but the staff made our visit pleasant despite this. The food was fine — not brilliant — but as I said, it’s the staff that really are fantastic. We would come back to this cosy pub if we were in the area… but probably just for drinks.
Definitely 5 stars, can't wait to return. The room was beautiful, outstanding food, I had the skate which was 10/10 and the chocolate and hazelnut parfait is delicious.. All staff are so professional. Memo worked very hard looking after customers and talking to staff, he had a very uplifting vibe about him which reflected on the staff/team. He made sure the log fire was on in our room before we arrived, which was a very special touch. We have been a few times before and stayed the night but this time it was even better thanks to Memo, the manager.
A total letdown. We'd been looking forward to dining here, as we're big fans of the other pubs and restaurants in the group, however, the whole experience was very disappointing. We arrived on a busy Sunday afternoon with a reservation booked for 2pm. On arrival, the staff looked rushed off their feet and couldn't say when the table would be ready - 'who knows??' muttered one of the staff. When we were finally seated, cutlery and menus were given to us without any pleasantries whatsoever. When the food arrived, after an hour-long wait, they'd got one of the kid's orders wrong, and the roast topside of beef I was served looked completely raw and inedible; even the waitress as she placed it down looked at me and said 'um, yeah, that doesn't look right, I'll take it back now and get you a new plate.' By the time, my now-roasted beef was back on the table, the rest of the veggies were cold. On the plus side, the beef was good, the Yorkshire was excellent as well as the gravy. On the negative side, the carrots weren't roasted as the menu advertised, they arrived par-boiled and hard; the cauliflower cheese was also hard and crunchy. All in all, a mediocre roast dinner, with a side of lacklustre, unfriendly service.
Great pub. Full of character. Friendly service. Interesting selection of ales and spirits. The quality of the food didn't quite match up to expectations, but the place was packed out and the staff remained attentive despite being overwhelmed with customers.Service: 4/5
Lovely county pub. The food was fantastic. Several cask ales available. Joseph our server was excellent. Terrific ambiance - at least parts of the building date back to about 1530.Rooms: 5/5
Had lunch with family including 2 two babies and a toddler - staff were very accommodating and food was delicious. Decor downstairs was gorgeous - both outside and indoors - loved the strawberry thief in the toilets!Rooms: 5/5
Great locally run pub with a good selection for lunch. Cozy main restaurant with a fireplace and seating outside. Good selection of beer and ale!
Ooo, we were right by the fire, thank God. It's soooo cold at the moment. We couldn't decide between the huge king prawns and the lamb loaf for starters, so, of course, we had both as our lunch. All of us. We don't waste a good idea. A large glass of wine of our choice and a coffee did us proud. No room for pud. The aioli made it. Thanks.
