Had an absolute blast watching the Sonic Symphony last night. Saw so many amazing people and got to listen to so many incredible songs. Thank you Eventim Apollo for hosting this wonderful event!
The Apollo is a well known events venue. Comedians like Sarah Millican and Tim Michin will do a gig here when touring. Musicians like Cliff Richard have performed here. Musicals like Shrek and Sister Act featuring Beverly Knight have played here. Big TV shows like BGT also film here.nnWe came for a filming of Live At The Apollo. One of the hosts was Paul Chowdhry. The other was Babatunde Aléshé. It was a nice night.nnLive At The Apollo is a very popular event and as tickets are free many people turn up. The queue was formed and a bit long already around 530pm opened at 515pm, but no risk of not getting tickets. Security was ok. You go through a machine once you're closer to the doors. You're not meant to bring in outside food or drink. Plastic water bottles are okay. They will make you empty out any liquids before entering though. They check the bigger bags more thoroughly. Once they scan the qr code they will check how many tickets. If your whole party isn't together they may not issue you the tickets for those who are not present. If not, you won't be sitting together.nnStaff aren't sure/give conflicting information about whether you can leave and return if your physical ticket hasn't been scanned. It seems to be if you haven't had your ticket scanned and gone into the main lobby area you are free to go back out and eat. Then you need to join the queue to get back in. If your event ends late after 10pm, go eat beforehand. There aren't many options late at night.nnThere's a number of bars on the ground floor. You can take the stairs up to the circle even if your seats aren't up there to get a drink at the bar up there or grab a seat. Other than beers, wine and soft drinks, they sell snacks like crisps, popcorn and sweets. However, there's no hot food or anything more substantial. First time visiting the venue, we went to see Staying Relevant on the last night. Really easy to get in, no queues, although we did arrive 15 mins before the show started so the queues had gone. Plenty of toilets which was clean, queues very small for the bar and merchandise stands. Overall a great venue and had a lovely evening.
Lovely open theatre with a great view of the stage from almost every seat. The sound was great, and the show Shrek the musical was very professional. Seats were a little snug for anyone over a Size 18 or anyone with long legs, and if you sit right near the back, you can not see facial expressions on the performers but otherwise a thoroughly enjoyable visit.
If you like being a sausage in the machine, then this is a great place to go. Everything runs smoothly and works really well. The seats are so close you can smell the cologne or perfume of people seven rows away, and everyone in the aisle needs to vacate if anyone wants to come in or out.
