Would have been a 5, but service was a little slow due to high volume. Food was excellent, could have been slightly hotter. Good portion size for children's meal. Coffee and mini dessert was good value.
Absolutely top notch food couldn't fault it. The choice of cocktails was poor unfortunately though. My wife booked it for my birthday and apparently requested a table not to on top of others but this was completely ignored and not even addressed by the host as she offered us 2 tables in between groups luckily a third table was available further away. The service was ok but the young lad was training and very enthusiastic.
A quaint pub just off the side of the road with some rather homely decor and welcoming staff. The seating arrangement inside was comfortable enough though the tables were far too small. The chicken I had was well cooked and moist and the chunky chips were a delight, though the prices were on the upper scale of pub pricing. Worth a visit!
Thank you for providing a great meal for 12 of us after our wedding. Cocktails and food were fantastic and we all left very happy and very full! Thanks for being so accommodating with the setting up, our arrival and throughout the night! The Gin room is a lovely intimate room, thank you so much, we look forward to coming back
We played the “no reservation game” today and it paid of. My wife and I had been coming to this place separately over 20 years ago. So it was great we could both go now. I have one think that I’d like to make very clear. Tammy is on of the best waitress I’ve ever meet. She ticked every box, she didn’t stop for the whole time we sat at the table. I’d poach her for any of my LDN projects. Again. Tammy is the best waitress there. We also had the pleasure of meeting Luke & Claire. Service 10/10 Food 7/10 We walked in to be created by the team & the chef was with them. Very strange to see on one of the busiest days in hospitality. Starters came quickly and tasty enough Prawns & feta Panko Brie Roast beef Roast pork belly Both tasty, and considering the time and day I was happily shocked. Apple & berry crumble & custard Chocolate Orange Bomb Crumble was poor, ratio of crumble shocking, custard from a packet. Chocolate was sickly Rich. Maybe the chef should spend more time in the kitchen in the pass checking all dishes that leave his kitchen. Must have seen him walk past our table 5 times A nice change that service beat food. Tammy you are a star and if you choose to stay in hospitality you’ll go far. Thank you for a great time
The company I work for pre-booked the Christmas work do meal here on a Thursday. The set meal had been booked as well so they knew what time we would arrive and what we were having yet the food took too long to arrive in my opinion 30 mins for the starter and an hour for the mains. As for the food itself, I decided to try something different and while my choices weren't too bad, I wouldn't order them again. Trout rillette with bread - needed more bread and more lemon oil. Blade of beef - it appears the mash was missing in action. Snowball smash - Pretty to look at. If you like meringue, cranberries and blackcurrants, this would be right up your street. As for the pub itself, it looked beautiful on the outside and the same goes for the inside. I felt for such a large pub, they needed more staff at the bar there was only one guy who was allowed to serve us alcohol. All in all, though I was slightly disappointed by my first experience here, I would like to go back as an individual and try out the usual pub grub. I think that would be a fairer assessment on the actual quality of what this pub can deliver.
We were met with a warm and smiley welcome that marked the start of a very enjoyable lunch in every way. The service was charming and attentive from start to finish – than you Devon. The menu is comprehensive from small plates to share through to pub standards and lots of interesting options in between. They take great care over allergies and have a separate menu for vegans. The four of us each had a different fish dish all cooked and presented to perfection. We loved the option of a small desert served with tea or coffee. Though I did go full Monty for the sticky toffee pud and ice cream. It was well worth the calories. And then there was the ‘damage’. Which, all things considered, was very reasonable. All in all, top marks and am left wondering why all pub restaurants can’t be as satisfying as this one. We’ll be back.
The food was delicious. I had 2 starters that were full of flavours, including scallops cooked to perfection. My husband loved his burger. Kids food was very nice too macaroni and cheese and cheesy enough without "swimming" in a cheesy sauce and fish was nicely cooked. The staff was really nice and helpful. Lucky us, as we randomly stopped on the road on our way back to London: it was just the lovely relaxed dinner with good food we were hoping for on a Sunday evening to conclude a nice weekend.
We arrived at early afternoon. Kitchen was about to close, but they were very friendly and accommodating, especially with the little one. They have him crayons and complimentary veggies with his pizza. We ordered fish and chips and coconut curry. The food was excellent and the curry was so beautifully presented too. The chef worked a bit overtime so we could have desserts too. The brownies were as good as everything else. It was a bit lacking on beer selection, but I can only recommend. Vegetarian options: There was a dedicated vegan menu. Kid-friendliness: They were especially friendly to the little one. They have him a child menu made of paper, with a drawing on the back for him to colour and some crayons. The high chairs were of good quality. The kid's food was simple but very good, he enjoyed his margarita pizza very much.
Only one person behind the bar, took so long to order a drink. The rudest person ever served our food and he gave the cocky image that he might be manager there. Was actually trying to argue with us that the chickpea mash we had been served, returned, and served again was in fact a falafel and perhaps we are too uncultured to know what a falafel is. Me, 15yrs a vegan lol. Actually due to this insulting experience for overpriced food I wont be returning. Dukes head used to be a treat, its definitely gone down hill!
