Deacon Brodies Tavern

About

You will find Deacon Brodies Tavern in Royal Mile Edinburgh within a short stroll of Edinburgh Castle, Waverley Station and George IV Bridge.

Story

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its heartily classic pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

Our tavern is named after William Brodie, one of the inspirations for Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde. Born in 1741 Brodie was a deacon of the Guild of Wrights. By day, he was a respectable citizen, a member of the town council but by night, he consorted with lowlife; gambling and drinking. His dark side meant he had to take to burglary to pay his gambling debts, leading to his hanging in 1788.

Deacon Brodies Tavern is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Absolutely lovely place. Staff couldnt do enough for us. My partner is Ceoliac but she had loads of choices and the staff were really clued up on gluten free choices. Their gluten free burger buns are out of this world! Great selection of beers and whiskeys too with lots of local offerings. Cant wait to visit again.
Visited with family for birthday dinner mid week. Was directed upstairs which was quiet. Asked to sit next to the window to be able to see the views, however was told it was reserved. However no-one sat there all evening which was odd :/ This place is best for a pint.
Brilliantly quirky pub with a great history and loved the G&T - Edinburgh gin single with fever tree for £6.
Very atmospheric If you want to go back to how pubs used to be, this place has the feeling, same decor, wood every where. Close your eyes and Go back in time. Open them to modern fresh delicious selection of food, some great ales and lovely service
Very good food, lovely atmosphere. Very clean, and upon arrival we were greeted by who I think was the manager and she explained all of the things they are doing to provide a covid-safe environment. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent taste of Scotland. Good old pub food and high quality drinks. Staff are helpful and friendly. Service is prompt. Location and atmosphere are perfect!
Food was gorgeous. Bit pricy but nothing more than expected for a top hot spot. Great decor, delicious drinks and would recommend.
