The current upgrade is going extremely slowly, though by UK standards, it is a good sign they still have funding. The tap-in machines are often broken, and there is no sign saying when the next train will come. There is also no lift and the one way system needs improvement, as it is currently easier to simply cut across into the other lane.
If I could, I’d give this place no stars. The staff are extremely rude and unhelpful. While I understand they’re not required to assist with buggies, it’s their attitude that’s the real issue. The customer service is honestly some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. It wouldn’t hurt to offer help when someone is clearly struggling—thankfully, other commuters have stepped in while staff hide in the back. As for the station itself, it’s grubby and poorly maintained. People regularly jump the barriers while staff do nothing. I’ve heard there are plans to renovate and install a lift soon—it’s badly needed.
Barnet Council is utterly shambolic, so don't count on them to do anything whatsoever.nnThat said, this outdoor tube station isn't bad if you get on at off-peak hours. There are digital signs overhead that tell the time to the next trains, though sometimes the Central London ones skip their route altogether that's on TFL.nnNot a step free station, so not recommended for those with prams, physical limitations, or luggage.nnThe immediate area can feel a bit dodgy, but keep your head down and ignore all the riff-raff, and hopefully you won't get harassed or pickpocketted.
The chap in the ticket office was extremely helpful. Last week he saw me looking puzzled and when I explained where I wanted to get to, he gave me excellent information and advice on using my card at the turnstile. I was at the station again this morning and the same chap helped me out. I said i wanted to go to Waterloo and he explained which train i needed to get. I was really pleased with the service and it seems a nice quiet station.
There are hardly any staff here and when there are they're usually hiding in the office. At least one machine is out of order at any given time. People jump over the barriers or push past paying people all the time and nothing gets done about it. When there is a delay or closure there is little to no information at the station and if there is it comes too late. Thousands of people are moving into the area every week with all the new flats being built and this station needs a major improvement by TfL.
