Such a cool place to go for a long walk. It was so cool to see the horses and the fantastic view of the countryside. I’ve lived in West Sussex for 10 years and only just discovered this place! If you have a hard time walking uphill I would not recommend this for you as I’m young and healthy and still struggled to get up the initial incline! That being said, absolutely stunning little gem :
Nice old hill fort. Great place for a picnic in summer or a windy walk in winter. It’s a relatively easy climb up to the top with stepped paths for the steep bits. At the top there’s a great panoramic view. There are horses grazing here so keep dogs on leads. At the top there are some benches and circular paths around the perimeter. There are a couple of very small car parks nearby which fill up quickly so you’ll likely find you need to park far away and walk here.
Stunning place, a little hilly in places. Depending on the time of day you can walk round and not see a soul. It does get busier the later on you go. The wild horses are a sight to see Even managed to see the Northern lights during a late night/early morning visit as t the weekend
Lots of footpaths to choose from. You can walk right up to the top and walk around the ring, through woods or across fields. You do need to put your dog on lead at a couple of areas depending on the time of year. Lots to choose from and various gradients
Great walk with amazing views. Limited parking for around 20 cars. Very idyllic & peacefulVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It is a bit of a walk up a steep hill, but totally worth every step. It is owned by the National Trust and is designated a Scheduled monument for its Neolithic flint mine and Iron Age hillfort. Neolithic flint mines were on Cissbury between 3500 BC and 2500 BC and are the earliest in Britain. In addition to the history, it is truly beautiful, wild horses, wind swept trees, gorse bushes and stunning views.
Beautiful place to walk. We parked away from the car park, as it says it is locked overnight but it currently doesn't have any means of a gate to lock it up, d'oh! Bit of a hilly walk, took dinner up to eat with the lovely view at the top, the horses were fine but the flying ants were a pain in the backside!
Been up here a few times now as is is a great spot for aerial photography. This is a popular area for dog walkers or those after a good hike with some stunning vistas of the Sussex countryside. There even have some wild ponies taken from the New Forest stock to help with the conservation of the area living lawn mowers to all intents and purposes. Sadly I haven't got to see them yet.
Simply beautiful and relaxing for those who enjoy with nature. Parking can be challenging.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNo
I love Cissbury, I've been visiting Cissbury for years, for picnics, walks, kite flying and just looking at the gorgeous views. There are a couple of ways up to the top and 2 car parks, neither of which is very big. The entrance to one is off a residential road. The other one you have to drive along a narrow country road for a bit and the parking is a lot bumpier and smaller but it's a shorter walk then the other car park. But which ever one you choose it is a fairly steep climb. It can get slippery in the winter and after a lot of rain, so good walking boots are sensible then. Love having the horses up here as well, they are great for photos as are the views. Our son loves to kite fly up here as well. This is a place I will visit for a long time to come.
