Needed a fairly quick Friday lunch for 3 before heading home to Surrey. My son lives nearby and recommended we come here. Friendly staff, food was decent and came in good time and the bill was reasonable. Nothing not to like
We recently moved to York and looked everywhere for the perfect pub, we finally found it. The atmosphere, the food, and the staff are all exceptional. We were served by Maddy and Alice C multiple times, and they are some of the friendliest and nicest people working in the pub. We look forward to coming every time. Highly recommend.
Visited for a quick drink with a group of fellow attendees from a course at the nearby STEM Centre. Nice pub. Despite being busy and football being on, there was a nice atmosphere, and bar service was quick and friendly. Look forward to coming back next time I’m in the area.
This pub used to be my local as a youngster, and it was like ordering a drink in someone's living room. It was a tiny pub and mainly for students, being in the village that University of York is located. But it had a refurbishment many years ago expanding its size, and thus capacity, and ability to serve you more quickly. I popped in to have a quick pint on a Wednesday evening, thinking it would be busy because it's traditionally sports day for the students and they go in for a few drinks after competing, but it was reasonably quiet. There were still plenty of students but a few locals in there, too. They were still serving food, which smelled fantastic, so maybe next time, I will partake. But I was served my pint quickly and politely. I drank it in a pleasant, relaxed environment whilst watching the football on the many TV screens they have. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended. Will pop in again, but maybe for a bite to eat next time
Great pub with friendly, helpful staff who go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. Super atmosphere. Lovely beers. Maddy was chatting with us today whilst decorating a Christmas tree. She gave us an early spirit of Christmas. Thank you!
Not a positive outcome for my anniversary. Rang ahead to check if we needed to book and we're told "you don't need to it has been dead the past few days" On arrival the pub doesn't do too badly for aesthetics and character but lacking for the food as there was 4 dishes missing including Cod and no fountain Coca-Cola. We were not for warned of any imminent kitchen closure, even when questioning the ordering process with a bar staff member. During this time a patrons dog was loose off the leash on the wander, it then decided to urinate in the middle of the floor in the walkway. The staff members were reluctant to clean it up; when one decided to, an audible unprofessional comment about doing so was made. When we decided to order the staff told us quickly that the kitchen had shut early due to low demand. It seemed as our custom as diners was being overshadowed by the easier to serve wet customers. So after a poor first impression we decided to move on from the establishment. If we are in the area again I would like to give it another try.
Lovely beer garden in the summer but food is really below par. Have been a number of times over the course of almost 15 years and rarely have I had something of an acceptable standard — cheap prices though.
Lovely pub on the outskirts of York. We had great service from the team. It has a wide food menu and a great beg beer garden to the rear. Would highly recommend.
Our favourite pub : Great place to come, great atmosphere, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Strongly recommended!
This is our fourth time visiting. On this occasion the food was not that good. Both Sausage and Mash meals with onion gravy had no onion gravy and the burger was served in a stale bun. Previous visits have been ok.
