Great, helpful staff. Cinema hall itself looks very worn-out. Seats are very comfortable, but the view is easily obstructed by the row in front. Edge seats suffer from being too close to the AC. The sound quality could be improved.
Invited to a preview screening of 'Aftersun'. The seats are comfortable but the building is in need of repair. Ladies toilet is down a flight of stairs. Good location for city centre.
It's not retro, as such, it's just a bit old and grubby. That's not to say it's terrible; it's fine, but nothing so special that would justify £13 for a seat. You'll get a better experience for a lower price elsewhere. I've heard good things about The Dominion down the road if you prefer small, retro, independent picture-houses.
Nice cinema with friendly staff. Seats are comfortable, but be warned that due to the shallow angle your view can easily be blocked by tall people in front of you, which is especially a problem for subtitled films. Think about your positioning and you'll be fine.
An independent cinema in the heart of the city which we should cherish. The Cameo is great and with more financial support it could be great. If you hurry past it may look small, perhaps art house or perhaps even seedy that's what teenage me thought a life time ago BUT it's lovely, splendid and comfortable inside. I'm writing this during the Scotland Loves Anime week long event. That was supposed to be at an other indie cinema into that fell into administration. At very short notice the Picturehouse agreed to save the week. Heroes. That's proof of how good the staff and administrative team are here. Looking to host a film event? Ask the Cameo. Screen one is fairly large and the seats are comfortable, but not terribly stacked so if you're short you will need to sit near the front. Attached to the cinema is a popular pub. It'll probably be busy, so grab a seat if you're tempted rather than dither. I'm not a member. I live miles away. Nevertheless, I'm tempted, especially if the cinema becomes the new forever home of SLA. [2023 update: February - it's a tough time for cinemas right now and I hope all at the Cameo are okay. I'm just back from a trip and it was as friendly as ever]
Favourite cinema, been coming here for years. Good mix of commercial and arty films, nice bar and general atmosphere. Top tip: the second from back row in screen one has the best view.
Great little 3 screen cinema, staff are great, service was also great, seating in main screen Screen 1 is old school style so if your like me and a bit on small side you may want to sit near back as possible but the seats are recliners and you can bring alcohol from the in-house bar in to enjoy.
Staff are amazing and the selection of films fill the void the filmhouse left. However the actual building is really run down. There's a weird smell in screen 1 and tape is holding the ceiling together. Hopefully this can get refurbished soon
We spent one of our evenings of our four days in Edinburgh at the picturehouse. Great atmosphere! The movie Fabelmans was very good. Make sure to book your tickets early so you can find good seats.
Staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. One particular gentlemen went out of his way to retrieve a spare movie poster they had lying around for me. Extremely kind and extremely appreciated
