A great couple of hours looking at all the various memorabilia from decades of music not just from Liverpool but the UK and beyond. Very well laid out, staff were very friendly and approachable. The hands on musical instruments were a great bonus, drums, keyboards and guitars that you can play. Café was very well designed, clean and well priced. The gift shop had some great stuff, a little pricey but not your usual tat.
We loved the museum. We came just a few minutes after the opening time so it was really quiet and we had some time to try playing the guitar or the drums. I love how all the things are divided into different eras. It's quite small, so we spent only 1.5h there but I'll never forget that time Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Such an amazing stash of memorabilia from British Artists spanning from The Beatles, The Spice Girls, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. They have several interactive stations around various parts of the exhibits. At the very end of the exhibits, before the gift shop, is the area where you can play all different instruments to see how they sound. They also have a room that teaches you dances from various genres. The ladies bathroom is very nice - such a beautiful window above the sinks
We visited on a weekday and it was relatively quiet which was perfect to take in everything there was to see. There's loads of fantastic pieces to look at, I particularly loved the clothing worn during various performance and of course the unique Beatles pieces! There is also a lot of music to listen to - in certain spots it does become 'noise' where various tracks can be heard at once but mostly this isn't too bad. When we visited there was a focus on the Spice Girls which was really fun. I felt a little underwhelmed by the hologram performance having read about it in other reviews. Overall a nice enough way to spend a couple of hours and handy as it's close to lots of other tourist attractions around the docks. We used our ticket for the City Explorer bus to get 20% off our visit.
I was in Liverpool for a day trip. And this place was a must see. It's everything about the history of British music throughout the decades. A huge collection of clothes and equipment from famous British musicians. There's also a hologram show. A virtual dance class and music lessons with instruments to practise on. You can stay there for hours. It's mind-blowing how the UK gave so much to the world music wise. You don't realise it until you see it with your own eyes in this museum.
I went to Liverpool for a day trip, this museum was first on my list of places to see. It did not disappoint!! Lots of cool memorabilia and I love how it takes you thru the decades. I spent almost 2 hours in here I read all of the labels lol. It deepened my love for UK music If you’re a British music fan, this museum is a MUST SEE, no question about it.
Absolutely loved it! Great walk round experience, covering just about everything from jazz and skiffle up to the present day. Just one complaint - there was absolutely no mention of The Jam! They were only one of the biggest and most influential groups of the late 70s and early 80s, but you fail to even give them a mention. Strange. Well worth a visit though.
Provides detailed information about the history of British pop music. Nothing to say against the Spice Girls, but they seen to be a bit overrepresented. The exhibition should be updated regularly. The Lathums, Luis Dunford... Great fun for people who like to try one of the instruments or fancy dancing. Tickets are quite expensive 20£ but valid for a whole year.
So glad we took a day out to visit during our stay in the Lake District. Really enjoyed it here lots of great unique memorabilia on display. Musical instruments to play area was a nice touch. Staff very welcoming and entertaining - lovely barister coffee shop to boot. Really brilliant day out and also great to walk around Liverpool streets.
Nice place to visit if you like the British music scene. From the early days up to modern music. At the end of the tour there is a section where you can learn dance moves, play the drums or guitars. Keep your hold of your receipt as it's valid for 12 months.
