Decent hotel. Accidentally booked a room without window nightmarish, don’t do that, some booking websites don’t specify very clearly so double check and staff was happy enough to upgrade me to a better room for a reduced fee which I appreciated. Fine for a short stay if you need to be in the city center as location is great. Lobby is beautiful. Didn’t have breakfast there so no idea about the food. Overall, not as bad as what some of the other reviews say. Is it a luxury hotel experience for a family of four ? No. And the prices reflect that. Is it fine for a professional/solo trip to MCR ? Absolutely.
I arrived at night and the reception staff name Jazeel warmly welcomed us, he even upgraded our room, which I really appreciate after a long hour travelling by coach. The check in process was fast and easy. Good hotel location, spacious room, and clean. The downside: the room is old, still using separate hot and cold sink one is too hot and the other one is freezing cold. Maybe some refurbishment will be great.
Looks nice when you first walk in, which is good as you'll spend the best part of 40 minutes standing in a queue waiting to check into your room. Make sure you allow extra time for this, it was such a disappointment. I had a double room with no windows, room was clean but very dark as only has 2 lamps and no lights on the ceiling or walls. Bathroom was also clean. It was a pleasant enough stay in a good location.
Main thing I can say is make sure you ask for a non smoking room as we found out they still allow smoking in part of the hotel. We don't smoke so we didn't find it very pleasant as it absolutely stank especially when you have a room with no windows. You can hear pretty much everything from your neighbours, walls must be made of the old school toilet paper, you could even hear people playing music on their phone. The air con didn't work either.
The Hotel gets a lot of bad reviews but is perfect for what it is. Cheap, budget, city stay. Its clean, its comfy. It has a bar next door and adjacent, an all you can eat buffet offers breakfast and lunch at a good price. If you just need a base camp for a few nights exploring Manchester its spot on. Nearby activities: Shopping restaurants bars coffee shops souvenirs museums cinema Food & drinks: Two bars and restaurants at the hotel and plenty all around Noteworthy details: No parking with hotel but public car parks on either side with charge
Bedding was clean but that was the only positive thing. Room had no light, just a lamp in the corner of the room, the bed itself & all of the decor was really old & falling to bits, mattress was old so you could feel all the springs, bathroom door has a chunk missing out the bottom corner, curtains weren’t big enough for the windows by a good foot either side so daylight streams in on either side couldn’t check in until 4 so went to their bar & the World Cup match was on but it was blaring out of about 10 speakers so you couldn’t even hear yourself think. Food was edible but not good quality. Because we couldn’t check in until late we could store our bags in a room near reception & when I went to collect my bag the member of staff was using it to prop the door open then kicked it out of the way so he could shut the door. Lifts are really slow so queues form really quickly. Just overall not a good place to be honest.
Location is amazing and that's it... Waiting to confirm booking took just over 45 minutes. Around 15 people on the front of us, 3 desks open but on 2 of them looks like to be learning. We had a 2 different double rooms on different floors. Both of them was clean but design and equipment remind me 70'-80'. We spend only one night sat-sun and most of the time been away so just spend sleeping time in the hotel. Paid £121 per room booked 4 days in advance so for hotel in city centre in my opinion is a good price. Next trip we will try different one to be honest.
Reasonable price, retained original decorative features both inside and out. Large and clean rooms. The check-in process is very slow, there were 7 of us, 2 children and photo ID was required for every one of us. Luckily we could Scrabble this amongst online photos etc, but an odd requirement. The rooms had thin walls so let through a lot of noise from others during the night
2 - 3 stars. Stayed last night at the Britannia Hotel - the interior is nicely presented and the staff were very friendly but the checking-in process seemed quite convoluted causing larger queues. The room itself could do with a bit of redecorating as the interior design was quite outdated but that's just nit-picking. There were cigarette butts on the windowsill despite there being multiple "no smoking" signs and I'm not convinced the people in the adjacent rooms weren't smoking as we kept getting whifs of weed and cigarette smoke all night. There was a total of 3 plug sockets including the one the TV is plugged into, and another which is on the floor in the wardrobe. This is probably fine for most, but we like to take phone chargers/Nintendo switch/laptop and there wasn't enough sockets. The radiators were impossible to turn off so we spent all night sweating with the window open as far as it would go not far. It was one of the less ideal night's sleep I've had due to the noise from the window being open. My husband liked the bath, said it was a fairly decent size with good water pressure, we hadn't tried the shower. I personally found the pillow uncomfortable as I prefer a firmer pillow, but my husband was happy so it depends on preference. Check out was at 10am, which we were aware of but not prepared for after less than 6 hours sleep. Probably wouldn't choose to stay here again but there's worse hotels out there.
From a chaotic check-in experience, to rooms with locked windows and no air-con, to bedbugs and faulty toilets, the Britannia hotel in Manchester has to be the worst hotel I've ever had the misfortune to stay in. When we arrived, we had to wait nearly an hour to check-in and then found the hotel had misnamed our booking. When we finally got into our rooms, we were sorely disappointed the pictures online are misleading. We had booked an Executive Twin room and the single beds were so tiny, it felt like you'd fall out if you so much as moved during the night. The toilet flush was broken and the shower leaked. We were given tea and coffee for one day only despite booking in for four days and the hotel staff were reluctant to give us more. Our request for an additional pillow after the first night was also ignored. The rooms are really hot and there is no air con, and the windows have restrictors on them so it makes for an uncomfortable night sleep. We also woke up with what seem to be bed bug bites. Possibly the only redeeming feature is the weird interior decor of the place, which looks like an 80s time capsule - but that's if you're feeling generous, as, broadly, the entire place is rundown and in need of renovation. It's cheaper than most other places in Manchester, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Would not recommend.
