I visited out of curiosity to see how nice the hotel is and to decide if I would stay in one of their many rooms in coming months. I instantly fell in love with the beautiful decor, chandeliers, and general atmosphere of this characterful and very underrated, large and impressive building.nnI wandered around admiring the pictures on walls, ornaments and other pretty fixtures and fittings and finally had a drink in the downstairs bar. Bar staff are very friendly and courteous and reception staff are very approachable and knowledgeable.nnRoom rates are underpriced in my opinion because this truly is a magnificent, historic and special place.nnI can't wait to stay here in the near future.
Just for context, I booked a £45 room, not a £200 room. Good sized room with a table & 2 chairs + a make up table / desk with chair. Yes the room was slightly shabby but everything was clean, everything worked and they had all the items you needed: kettle, tea, coffee etc. hair dryer. There was security on the door and the rest of the hotel was clean & staff welcoming. Excellent central location. Great value for money.
I booked this at the absurdly low cost of £36 because I just needed a bed for the night and nothing more. I then read some horror story reviews and expected the worst. Instead I was greeted by one of the most impressive hotels I have stayed at. The interior is awesome and beautiful. Carpets are not dirty. They appear to be new.nThe staff were helpful and efficient. Indeed there is security but I guess this is related to the location - bang central Manchester. Yes they asked for id but this is standard in many continental European hotels.nI had to leave before breakfast so I can't comment on this.nSome reviews talk about noisy rooms and single glazed windows. Not a problem for me since my room had no windows. I guess that's a problem for some but for me it meant peace and dark. Lighting in the room was good. The room interior was functional. A bit like a student bedsit. But not bad. There was stuff for tea and coffee. Attached are photos of the room and the main stairwell and foyer. Plus a door number. 237 of course...
Average hotel that gives no real customer service. WiFi not free, no concession car parking, rooms basic. Very pricey for what's offered. Plus points comfy bed and great city location. Pretty good breakfast. Probably go elsewhere next time. Room was > 150 pounds on night we stayed
Check-in was fast.nThey require photo ID at check-in.nRooms in need of a revamp as well as bathrooms that show some wear and tear.nWell stocked tea and coffee in the room.nRooms were clean throughout, all linens clean.nThere is a hairdryer in the room.nUnfortunately, the hot water tap didn't work. It only trickled, so I was unable to take a bath.nRoom walls are very thin, and you can hear everything from your neighbours.nUnfortunately for me, I heard a couple arguing, 2 dogs barking and noisy children.
