Food and service were excellent. Boclair House is helpfully located close to train and bus links and has ample parking. The bar/restaurant is tastefully decorated in a comfortable lounge style with dark wood and bookcases. Servers are attentive and service was quick. Prices are reasonable for the target market. Bit of quibbling when it came to using gift vouchers so probably best to avoid gift vouchers here.

We were really disappointed when we came for Christmas dinner in December 2017. At £85 a head, this was a complete rip off for what we received. This hotel is beautiful inside but the operations and management of this hotel are seriously lacking. Firstly, it wasn't explained at the time of booking Christmas dinner that there were two places to eat - the main function area and Annabelle's restaurant. I was just given times to choose from. I booked 4pm. When we arrived we were taken into Annabelle's restaurant and only then were we told that the 2pm sitting was in the main function area, which looked much more lively. Annabelle's restaurant had little atmosphere. We were sat at a table which had a wonky leg and the service wasn't great there either. My mum had to argue with the waitress who said that we couldn't move into the main function area as this was for people who were eating at 2pm and if we moved through everyone else would be finished their meals. This was quite unpleasant as the waitress was really argumentative with us. She then went and spoke to the manager who agreed to move us through to the function area. We then sat and waited while the decorations, menus, etc. were swiped off our table to dress our new table in the function area. Once seated in the function area, this was much better as it had a nicer atmosphere, nicer table and entertainment. At this point though, everyone else was being served their main courses. The food we had was nice and the waiters were attentive, however, it was pretty disappointing that the waiters were clearing up, blowing out candles etc. when we were just served out desserts. We were then the only table left still eating and all the waiters finished up and left while we were on this course. This was really poor as the whole function area had cleared out at this point including the staff. For £85 a head, paying £435 in total for our meal plus drinks - this is not what I would have expected and don't feel that the service we received on the day was worth this much. This could all have been avoided if we'd been told at the time of booking that the 2pm sitting was for the main function area and the 4pm sitting was in Annabelle's restaurant. It was also not communicated at the time of booking when the final balance would be due. I just received an email out the blue saying the final balance was now due. I think that £85 a head is really overpriced for what we got on the day and unfortunately I wouldn't choose to have Christmas dinner at Boclair again with my family. Having to argue with the waitress when we arrived put a dampener on the rest of our evening and the waiters clearing up while we were on desserts was not good. I have since emailed the hotel and my mum has left messages for the manager who is not calling her back and clearly just wants this complaint to go away. Never again would I eat at Boclair house. Christmas was really disappointing for us as a family and no compensation has been offered.

Beautiful venue but the seating arrangement for the ceremony wasn't great neither was the time it took to turn the room around for the meal and then again for the reception. Too many chiefs springs to mind. Food was lovely

Coffee wishy washy. No service what so ever even though I was the only one there. The waitress spent her time looking out the window. Then the scone came when the coffee was almost done. It was a plain scone as I wasn’t asked which I preferred. Cut the hot scone and it was really cold inside. Although I asked to read a menu still have not received it. Not to be recommended. Now given up 👎

Extremely pleased with the staff. However reservation was not followed through correctly. When I booked the afternoon tea I specified that there was to be NO pork. When we arrived I reconfirmed this and I was told it was in hand. Guess what there was HAM sandwiches in the afternoon tea! I didn't complain as I didn't want to start our special day off with moaning.(My husband and I had a full day ahead planned). It would be nice if we could have an explanation please! The high marks given are for the venue and waiting staff being attentive.
