Pub and Eatery in the Georgian Quarter, fresh food, traditional beer and good wine selection.
PUB
We were recently visted by Lawrence, who lived in the Blackburne with his family until he was evacuated to Wales in 1939, aged 13. His father was the patron for Higson’s Brewery and he was able to tell us all about how the Blackburne looked almost 100 years ago.
Today, the Blackburne is a community hub, selling an extensive spirit range, beers from around the world and local real ales from the Liverpool organic, Rock the Boat and The Parker Brewery as well rotating guest beers from around the country recent examples are Oracle from the Salopian Brewery, Cascade from Black Edge Brewery in Horwich and Yankee from Roosters in Yorkshire – all chosen by our customers who always have at least one people’s choice beer on, you ask for it – we’ll source it.
EATERY
We are very proud of our food. Head Chef Jack Farthing has created a small but eclectic menu, with fresh, honest, high quality pub food. It’s not fish and chips – it’s the best pub fish and chips around, line caught cod, home-made, hand cut chips twice cooked chunky chips and homemade tartare sauce. It’s not the usual sausage and mash… it’s made with our own house sausage, created by Bexleys Butchers exclusively for us, our signature dish is the Belly Pork with Veal Jus…. Pub food – but the best pub food.
All of our ingredients are sourced locally, and everything is fresh. Thursday night is grill night, when we offer a choice of steaks for £15 including half a bottle of wine.
Our signiture Sunday Roasts are made using chicken supremes – not fillets, our beef is sirloin – not topside, and we regularly have specials, pork, lamb, venison or duck on the menu as well. Booking is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.
Breakfast is served until midday Monday to Friday. With our new style brunch menu served until 5 Monday - Saturday and includes an extensive choice, all the way from toast and the classic Full English to the classy Eggs Benedict or Steak and Eggs
Our little VIP menu includes colouring for the kids and we don’t resort to the usual frozen pub fare either – want kids fish and chips? … No problem, it’s the same line caught cod we are serving to adults, just as the kids Sunday Roasts are simply a half sized version of the real deal!
