Not sure if we just had a bad experience, as all the other reviews look very positive - but I am local to the area and have genuinely never been in a pub with such an odd, unfriendly atmosphere. The guy at the bar seemed slightly fixated on the issue of paying cash vs card and it really felt as though his front of house skills were lacking. I really wanted to like it here but was just…unimpressed.
One of those pubs where if you're not local, you'll feel it. Arrived early afternoon and ordered 3 coffees. The landlord asked the bar if anyone was ordering a "proper drink", and served someone else. We got the coffees, but they'll be the last thing we have from here. I'm sure it's a lovely pub if you're a familiar face.
What an amazing evening we have had. The staff and the quality of food saved our night away! We were staying in another pub nearby, which was not very welcoming, so headed out to find somewhere else to spend the evening. The lady behind the bar who played for Stow on the Wold RFU was so friendly and loved Charlie our dog. We met Ace, the dog born next door with his owner and Adrian who chatted with us. The chef from South Africa did a fantastic dairy free alternative to a pork dish and an excellently cooked steak. Couldn’t recommend this pub more, if your nearby go visit!
Nicely presented village pub very friendly staff and the food was excellent. Food portions were very ample and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend
Couldn't recommend this pub enough. We were looking for somewhere to eat whilst on a mini break in the Cotswolds, and despite only calling the night before, they managed to squeeze our group of 10 in. On Arrival the staff were very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The service was spot on, and the food was amazing, I had the beef roast, and its the best I've had in a very long time. Our waiter was so friendly, and great with the kids, who were becoming restless. I'd highly recommend visiting here if you are in the area.
Traditional and friendly country pub. We took a half way break here on our 10 mile walk and were welcomed by the landlord. The welcome was enhanced by the warming fire and well kept Donnington ales. It was a wrench to leave and continue our walk!
There are definitely some good points to this pub, but unfortunately lots of bad too. It’s dog friendly, which was great for us on holiday with our dog, but unfortunately the food and even the drinks were almost completely tasteless. The attitude of one of the male servers wasn’t great and the chef was even worse! In the words of one of the servers “he had a breakdown and gave them all a b****king” after we reluctantly sent one of our meals back. There was a female server who was absolutely lovely and gave wonderful service a slim blonde lady working on a Sunday afternoon. I felt bad for this lady getting the brunt of the chef’s anger by the sounds of things! Overall I wouldn’t recommend this pub based on our experience, but the location is lovely, the female server was brilliant and my Husband’s shandy was good. The roast meats, gravy and cokes had virtually no taste unfortunately, our baby’s high chair was dirty and some of the attitudes were far from desirable. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to our meals.
Very friendly atmosphere, coupled with good food makes this dynamic restaurant a real favourite. It's self service, so eat as much as you want, throughout the evening at your own pace.
Cosy place, friendly staff. Good honest pub food and great value. Would definitely recommend.
Really nice pub. Good food and beer. Great break on a walk. Shame about the grumpy guy behind the bar
