We had some lunch after a lovely walk. Very nice. The roast wasn't too much like it can be sometimes but the quality was great, lovely roast pork and potatoes. And the cheesecake for desert was amazing. All presented very well and the staff were great too. Overall pleasant experience. Thanks.
Just popped in for a coffee so can't comment on accommodation or food. Hence only 4 stars at present. However. Really good friendly service. Bar and table/seating areas are lovely. Toilets immaculate. Menu looked good. Plus damn fine coffee!
We come for coffee, lunch and dinners and always a warm welcome. Very accommodating with the kids and always served quickly. Also have a decent selection of cakes and gluten free options.
2 night stay. Rooms were a great size, comfy bed, lovely bathroom with a fab walk in shower and stunning roll top bath. Delicious breakfast, great menu choice and welcoming and friendly staff at breakfast. Experience was dented by lack of room housekeeping during stay tea, coffee etc not replenished extremely hot towel rail in bathroom which uncomfortably overheated the room, tough steak served at dinner and without a steak knife. Staff member was dismissive and uninterested at check out which would have been an opportunity to apologise/acknowledge feedback to leave on a friendlier & more positive note.
The perfect country pub. Fantastic food, tastefully done, huge room with a huge comfy bed and high quality bedding… faultless. Oh and the lovely staff held the kitchen for us because our train was delayed. Well done the bear.
Strongly recommended. Stayed for a two night break over a cold March weekend, but the Bear was wonderfully comfortable and warm with a welcoming bar and restaurant busy with a mixture of guests and locals. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food delicious and the rooms and bathrooms expensively and tastefully appointed. The style is contemporary. Lots to do locally even in the off season, and I recommend the Rex cinema which is open every day and is just round the corner. Manned by volunteers it has been beautifully refurbished and the wine is very reasonable! All in all a great place to stay.
Stayed for a couple of nights in Feb. Pro Large and pleasant rooms Good quality breakfast and dinner £££ Huge bath tub Excellent shower Attentive staff Huge beds with excellent mattress Well decorated through out Good hot drinks selection in the room Con No parking available on site Pillows were not to my taste Duvet was very hot Windows are very thin so you can hear all the street noise/drunk locals/shouty teens Room wasn't cleaned even though we asked for it to be done. No fridge in rooms
Great location for a coffee or meal. A variety of different settings within the building providing choice. Coffee is great, limited menu but superb quality. Highly recommended.Rooms: 5/5
We came for lunch at The Bear on Sunday 29th Jan as a party of 4 adults, a 4 yr old, two 1 yr olds and a dog all mentioned on the booking reservation. We were shown to our table in the front room which was oddly squeezed in considering there was room to move the tables around a little. Overall the food was ok. 3 of the 4 adults requested the lamb shoulder, from the specials board, but 5 minutes later were informed this was out of stock. We made alternative choices and I personally had the lamb burger. At £15.50 I was hoping for a good burger but unfortunately it was on the dry side, with a very small portion of fries and an egg cup of slaw. We then ordered a desert from the specials board, the sticky toffee pudding, this again was out of stock. We were offered a complimentary special, Bakewell tart which was nice. The sticky toffee pudding was added to the bill which we had to ask to be removed. The bill came and as we are all partaking in dry January had orange juice and tonic to drink. We got the bill to discover that a pint of OJ and Tonic was £6.50 each! This felt incredibly overpriced and was disappointing for a soft drink option. Overall the experience was very ok and felt overpriced in places for food that wasn’t much more than standard pub grub when the specials menu is basically out of stock. The staff were friendly and nice.
The girls looking after the bar were great and the chef cooked up a real treat. Quality food worthy of a top hotel. #morethanjustapub
