I was referred in Feb, got told they couldn't help me just what you want to hear when you're suffering with your mental health got called back and told I'd be put on the waiting list - reached the top of the list in October. I had couple of days where I was so down and struggling with my mental health that I didn't even know what day it was for about 4 days. I missed my appointment and was let go via email. Confidence in trying to get help is definitely at an all time low
If you suffer from PTSD and they recommend talking therapy RUN and think about sorting your mental health privately. I didn’t manage to complete the treatment as it was making the symptoms worse. Not helpful. Hayley W. my counsellor wasn’t helpful and felt more like she had a script to follow didn’t even to have read or know about all the questionnaires I had to go through, didn’t felt like she had much experience on this sort of therapy or issues. How it works to access isn’t helpful eithr: As they question to know your issue, then you wait 6-8 months to be able to access therapy, then don’t give option of face to face appointment but all online, that for some may work for others like me it doesn’t help and there’s no engagement with the therapist. Worst is receiving a letter were the therapist thinks that through out her sessions I identified my triggers and copying mechanisms that I already had from many years of dealing with PTSD…. My friends have helped me more and given better advice that I have received by this therapist or through out this sessions. A waste of time and for anyone in waiting list good luck I hope you the best.
Only contact I’ve had with them in 6 months is a review of a questionnaire I did on how I would like to be contacted. I needed help 6 months ago. I feel for more vulnerable people. Talk to someone else
Please be aware that this service is not confidential and details of your sessions will be shared with your gp even if you've self referred and regardless of whether you give consent or not. Apparently it is just the way they work. I've never felt concerned with how the NHS use or share my data until now.
I think I was extremely lucky to have such an amazing therapist. This therapist had really made an incredibly positive impact upon my life. I am so very thankful. The service I believe was very good, great communication and professional at all times. Forever thankful to my therapist, NHS and the staff that really do put a lot into their careers to help others. Thank you.
Terrible experience. And absolutely do not care about you, just robots, without the desire to shut up a person. Moreover, they are still playing with you in believing and not believing, despite the fact that you are already depressed.
Bit of a waiting list just over 2 months, though somewhat understandable as it's a free service. Took about 5 weekly sessions of talking therapy mixed with CBT and it was quite helpful. Very open process, they are willing or at least my therapist was to go in a direction you want, e.g. you may not want to do CBT or you may want to shift the focus of conversation to something else.
Not recommended. Initially referred to Mind Matters Barnet, which I believe became Barnet IAPT. The issues I experienced included not being assessed for the condition referred for initially by Mind Matters Barnet, however Barnet IAPT then tried to repeat this error and when I was finally referred for treatment, I was referred to a person who had previously been struck off the NMC Register. This really hindered me getting the help and support I need and therefore my condition has deteriorated.
