This has to be the best landlady in the country. Looked after us right from the start, gave me her own coat to keep warm outside, as it was too busy at first to sit inside. As it was raining at closing time she offered us a lift back to our B&B and when we decided to walk she said to take her coat and return it the next day. Had a great night here. Visit if you can, can't praise it enough.

Lovely hidden corner of Derbyshire. Friendly locals and hosts. Great beers, and just about to start their own microbrewery. World hen races on first Saturday in August are a must! Put it on your 'to don't list!

Staying in a cottage nearly and having visited a few pubs in the area. Popped to the Barley Mow. Place is small and intimate I would recommend phoning ahead to book to secure table. Greeted by a lovely guy, got us a table, offered us drinks. Nothing was too much trouble. We ordered food - very much home cooked food from scratch. Great value for money. Particular favourites Sea Bass fishcakes, home cooked chips and salad decoration. Lamb curry, Lasagne, steak and ale pie and gammon steak. The locals all made us feel welcome too. And the bar man/landlord appreciated our custom. Nice hot food, very fresh, value for money and fab atmosphere. We will be back! The Nottingham, Derby, Liverpool gang xxxx

We arrived in this fantastic pub with friendly people, great food and a real find. I would recommend the Sunday roast. Thanks Dean from Lichfield. Ps we found the pub by asking a gentleman at the local petrol station 4 miles away and he recommended it and showed us the way a great village in the middle of nowhere. Brill
