Great place to go for a long walk. It's also very flat and has tarmac. There are 3 long tunnels on the walk as it used to be a rail track. You can hire bikes and stop for a coffee or picnic. Have to be aware of the cyclists.. most of them are polite and ring a bell some just dodge past you. Lots of great photo opportunities.
If you like cycling , you must visit this place. According to my adventurous husband it was nice, which means it was not as challenging as he hoped for. However, for me it was a great ride, beautiful scenery and we will definitely come back there to see the trail in autumn
Great place for a walk just above the long stone bridge there is a pub called The Stable Bar that serves food located on Castle Gate Road. There is also two parking places one is short stay 1 hour stays only and the other around the back of the pub is longer stays. You can walk down below the bridge from the pub on the trail in front of the pub.
Good place to get on the Monsal Trail from Bakewell, old railway line route that is easy to walk ‍ and cycle. Includes going through big tunnels and along the viaduct with plenty of views and is part of the Peak District National Park.
What an awesome trail! It took us almost 4hrs to do the whole thing on foot. We parked jn Bakewell and got a cab to Wyedale Car Park on the A6 to do the whole trail. It’s really lovely. Very easy going as totally flat the whole way. About 1hr in there are some toilets and again about 1 mile from Bakewell. Both places have cafes too. Gorgeous views all round, highly recommended for a lovely, long walk.
Such a lovely place to visit, does get busy though. Excellent cycle path which is mostly flat and plenty of views to take in along the way
A good easy footpath which provides an enjoyable walk, cycle or run. Word of warning - if you plan to complete the footpath to "topley pike" with the intention of heading to Buxton - avoid. On the trail completion there is just a car park in the middle of nowhere. The main road to Buxton has no footpaths and is not safe to walk on. There is a continued footpath near a quarry which is terrible and overgrown and heads in the wrong direction for Buxton. There are bus stops which cater for a very limited bus service 2 hours between each.
Really enjoyed walking the trail...Amazing scenery and so much history. The tunnels were fab and well lit,but the lights do go off at dusk.Great for cyclists as its flat. There were a few cafes at the disused stations which catered for food and drink. Defo going to cycle it next time
Easy to find. Plenty of spaces, especially if you arrive early and great access to The Monsall Trail. Ticket machine takes cash only as far as I could tell, and it's £4.75 for all day. Bit pricey, but there you go...Saying that, charges are in effect from 9am, so in theory, you could arrive early, have a decent walk to get back before 9 and not have to pay.
Very convenient for a ride on the Monsal trail, but the last time we went the service was very slow, we had a wait of nearly 45 minutes for our meal and the place wasn't that busy. We won't be going again.
