Garden centre plants quite good although pricey. New parking restrictions not good, though. I've been visiting this garden centre for years and didn't see the notices that say you can only park for 90 minutes! We, stupidly as it turned out, decided to have lunch as well as buy plants. The cafe - once we'd found something they hadn't run out of - was very slow so we actually stayed 20 minutes more than permitted. Although we didn't know that at the time. Just received a parking charge notice from Euro Car Parks for £100, £60 if paid within 14 days. I suggest staying away from Capital Gardens until they go back to free parking like all the other garden centres in the area. Parking charges like these make the plants even more expensive than before. I'm outraged that they have introduced charges for parking like this. Surely there should be exemptions for people buying plants etc or using the cafe. Definitely won't go there again. Recommend Sunshine Gardens - free parking, good cafe and better and more staff.
Beautiful place. A great variety of plants. Gardening goods. A cafe with a pleasant atmosphere.
I have exactly the same experience as the last reviewer. I went there recently for the first time. Didn't see any signs about parking and you wouldn't expect to anyway at a garden centre. Bought a coffee for myself and a friend in their cafe, shopped for gifts, plants and compost and generally took my time as you do at a garden centre. Now I have a £100 fine 60 quid if I pay by May 8th. I feel really annoyed about this. In fact, I feel a bit of a mug. It's a dear enough garden centre, but it's small and you want to support small businesses over big companies like B and Q. But this is how you are repaid for your custom. I obviously will never go back there again and have advised all my north London friends with gardens to avoid this place. They will because everyone I mentioned this to is very surprised that a garden centre of all places would do this to their customers. I will continue to use the Sunshine garden centre in North London instead and advise anyone thinking of going to Alexander Palace Garden Centre and Cafe to try Sunshine instead. It has a better choice of plants and gifts and the cafe is better too. You'll have free parking so can enjoy your visit there without worry. Nobody goes to a garden centre to rush and panic, it's place for leisure, browsing and spending. But this experience has really bothered me. I wouldn't have minded spending £60-100 there on plants but instead I have to pay a private parking firm £60-£100 just for being foolish enough to go there as a customer that day. May I suggest going forward that the owners make it very, very clear they are operating such restrictive parking so customers are fully aware of the penalties. Otherwise find another place where you can spend your money on summer plants and not on exorbitant parking fines.
I know this place very well, right now it's got a good range of plants somewhat cheaper than the competition I think, there's a diverse group of staff with a better overall attitude than previous years. The café has better coffee and I personally recommend the ginger cake. The gifts and cards are nicely selected and with a discount, good value
Great customer service! Emma is a superstar and went above and beyond to help us, and all the staff we've met have been friendly and helpful on each visit. Lovely range of plants and products, and always a pleasure to visit.
