This is a very nice cafe with beautiful views and a nice garden to sit out in. It is a little more expensive than your average cafe in town but the views are second to none , I have been here multiple times and never had a bad experience they also have a free car park. Not to worry, if you re not a car driver, you can access this by train as Southease train station is only a three minute walk away. Walkability: Not really in walking distance , but Southease train station is only a three minute walk away If you have a train station in your town
Beautiful surroundings. 5 minute walk from a small train station which means Brighton is only 25 minutes away. Good cafe. Shared showers varied in water temperature but all worked well enough. Room was a little bit small bunk beds with no wardrobe but very comfortable. Very clean.
This was a great place to stop for a drink and a cake or a meal. They have recently put their prices up twice in three months. Tea and a cake was £3.95 then £4.95 now £5.95. It is a deterrent to stopping there again in future. It is nice to sit outside on the benches if sunny. I have never stayed there only passed on the South Downs Way when cycling.
We stopped overnight before the Newhaven ferry. Nice location in the countryside although right next to a busy road. Had dinner and breakfast in the cafe which was good value and quality. Rooms were OK, provided the essentials but definitely a budget/student vibe and quite noisy with people moving around, so we would probably not choose to stay here again in the same price bracket.
Great facilities and service. Breakfast was excellent and rooms very warm for a weary traveller. No issues drying my wet gear.Rooms: 4/5
The YHA cafe was fantastic! A perfect final stop on the last leg of the SDW. It was bright and airy, new looking cafe with a lovely garden area. Offers a wide selection of food, fresh cakes, and a much needed cracking brew although the beer was tempting!. Has good clean toilet facilities and multiple water station. Highly recommend. Food & drinks: Fresh and with lots of choice for a small cafe, with good service.
Great cafe to stop at whilst out mountain biking on the Southdowns. Plenty of cakes & toasted teacakes, and a decent lunch menu. Sampled some decent cider to boot! Friendly staff & great service Rooms: 4/5
Stayed in a 2 person pod for £35 for the night. Can’t fault the place at all. Staff were friendly. Pods are clean and warm, shared kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment, crockery and washing up products, two bathrooms with a shower inside for the campers to use and an additional toilet. We didn’t use the cafe so cannot comment on that. I’d stay here again.
We recently called for lunch & chose a veg burger each which I ordered and paid for. On checking the receipt I saw it said chicken burgers so I went back to find the person who had taken my order who was chattering to kitchen staff. When I asked her to correct the order she laughed and said "it's alright, they haven't begun cooking them yet". As we waited, she and other staff members were laughing and chattering amongst themselves. Two of them were eating chocolates behind the counter, putting them in their mouths with fingers as they were serving food to customers. When our burgers arrived they looked and tasted like chicken but the staff were so inattentive to customers we decided to accept them. As we ate three members of staff were then eating iced lollies behind the counters continuing to chatter amongst themselves. All this time, a male member of staff was in and out stocking up the chilled drinks and periodically wiping a table and tidying the place. He was the only one who seemed interested in the job he was paid to do. It must have been difficult for him working in that environment. Before writing a public review I emailed the hostel but didn't even have the courtesy of an acknowledgement let alone a response!
Lovely cafe and garden and they didn't mind when we ate our own sandwiches after buying coffee and sweats from the cafe. Clean toilets and a water bottle refilling station which is important if you are about to tackle the hill up the South Downs Trail......
