Yardley Wood railway station serves the Yardley Wood area of Birmingham in the West Midlands of England. Located on the North Warwickshire Line, the station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Trains. The station platforms are accessed by ramps from Highfield Road, which crosses over the railway on a bridge just north of the station. The ticket office is located at road level, adjacent to the bridge. The station was opened by the Great Western Railway GWR on 1 July 1908, along with the line, and was originally known as Yardley Wood Platform.... Platform being a GWR term for a station which was intermediate between a halt and a station in importance and facilities; the suffix was later dropped. Unlike the previous and following stations on the line Shirley and Hall Green Yardley Wood was never provided with goods facilities. Most of the original station buildings are still intact. The station staff houses for the Station Master and Sub-Station Master, built on Highfield Road by GWR in 1907, were in use until around the late 1970s but were sold off as private houses shortly after this time. They still stand next to the station on Highfield Road During Monday to Saturday daytimes: 3 trains per hour northbound to Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill continuing to Stourbridge Junction, with some trains continuing onward to Kidderminster and Worcester. 3 trains per hour southbound to Whitlocks End, one of which continues to Stratford-upon-Avon. On Sundays, there is an hourly train between Worcester, Birmingham, Shirley and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Parked here to get train into Brum. When I came back my catalytic converter had been stolen. Car sounds like a bloody tank. Carpark is down a dip and can't be viewed from the road so I guess the thieves took their time and no one challenged them. Avoid.
Always rammed trains. No parking in either car park after 8am sometimes earlier. Paying for a service I do not get. Standing and getting back problems from how rammed it is. They need to expand surrounding station carparks such as hall green and spring road so everyone stops stealing the parking at Yardley Wood and hence filling up the train. Also always delayed trains and the ticket invigilator with the grey curly hair and glasses is an obnoxious individual. Very rude and should be dismissed!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Station very clean and safe. It has very good tarmac car park which is extremely popular.
I have used this station for years, very helpful staff at the ticket office always clean and the trains are usually on time.
A nice & pretty station with basic facilities, good location & a park n ride
Easy access to the stations toilets not open and no staff for help and suppirt
Lots of steps down
Easy access, lovely quiet waiting area and helpful staff..only minus point limited parking
Train journey from here gets you in to brum in 15 mins...goodbye busses.
