Fantastic place, coming from Aberdeen which relies entirely from oil and gas, it's a big lesson what happens when you rely on one industry. You could easily spend a whole day there, though we only were there for a short visit. We intend to return to give it more time. Highly recommended

Good place to take children. Lots to see and there are activities. Reasonable cafe. You do have to pay an entrance fee that is valid for a year.

A nice, well maintained and relevant museum. Not a great deal here for kids but they do put on events sometimes. A great space. Similar to the Centre For Life in some ways. Annual membership and fairly expensive cafe prices make a first visit a touch pricey for a family day out, though as younger kids are free if you have a lot of them it could work out well if you brought a picnic or didn't intend to eat. It's sad that museums like this aren't open to the public for free given their charity status and nature of the bulk of their funding. That said I'd rather pay something than see it go away.

This museum is great if you want to venture into the miners mind, with unprecedented knowledge on the mines and miners. They have a lovely cafe and a beautiful lake to walk around. Fancy a trip out? Get yourself down to the Woodhorn museum and enjoy a day out. They also hold special days that include ‘Star Wars’ events, and comic cons if your into that sort of stuff.
