This could be such a lovely place to stay - the cleanliness is excellent, breakfast good, setting peaceful. However, there was no heating in our room at check in time. We were told this would be coming on shortly. Having little choice therefore we went out to Whitby for a couple of hours. On our return just after 5 our room was still without heat. A friendly chef said he would switch it on, which he did. However, the room still being cold we had no option but to get a drink in the bar. There were limited tables available, and these all had reserve signs on. We asked if there was anywhere we could sit and were offered bar stools or to perch on the end of another table. I appreciate the locals are the bread and butter for the pub but to be honest this is to the detriment of any guests staying overnight. We did not feel welcome. The frostiness in the pub matched the coldness of the rooms.
Had food here a few times now and each time was lovely. Sunday dinners are gorgeous and if you don't want Sunday dinner you can get something else. I've also had the steak pie meal the gougons scampi and more. So as you can tell the food is worth going back for. Definitely recommend it.Service: 5/5
What a great night. Service and food was excellent. Full a locals embracing their thriving local pub. Place to go for a great pint, quality pub grub and fantastic atmosphere. Thanks to Ben and Tammy for making our weekend. We will be back!
Homely pub, excellent food, friendly staff and clientele, super dog friendly. Really enjoyed our meal here, we were made to feel entirely at home, even our pooch settled immediately... Which speaks volumes. Would definitely recommend, and look forward to returning in the future. Thank you for a truly enjoyable evening.
This trip to c the new year in was a fantastic trip and we will stay here again. It was very busy when we turned up but realised they r running a bar at the same time so had no problem waiting my turn. All staff were lovely, even offered to feed us when they were fully booked. The breakfast I gotta say is a 10 from me, cooked for u when your ready, local produce cooked to perfection quality food and a good range to choose from. If I could pick anything to complain about it would b a little noisy in the morning but not much can b done about that and worth getting up for breakfast, have a sit in the roll top Bath and watch the morning out the window. Loved our stay and thank you for having us.
We stopped by, with the dog, on the of chance of a Sunday lunch and wow we were not disappointed! 1 roast beef and 1 roast gammon both with all the trimmings later and we were all very happy, definitely worth a visit
The owners are very friendly and attentive. Stayed in one of the Shepherds Huts with my husband and two sons. Very clean and comfortable. Shared WC and shower were also very clean. Fabulous value breakfast included in price, great choice and extremely tasty. Evening food menu also very nice. Would definitely return.
Just a solid pint and a great meal. Feels like a proper local pub. Always seems busy. 10/10
