Sunday dinner was generous, beef overcooked for me, purley personal preference. Mash was lumpy and not creamy, roasted potatoes tasted reheated to me. These days with cost of eating out, food should be 100% and better or the same as you can cook at home. Open from 18.00 only, except Sunday, throughout the week. Busy and well used. Friendly staff and helpful. We had to have takeaway as they don't allow dogs inside, for this reason we have not frequented the pub throughout our stay in the village. Hence I have given 1 star for atmosphere. Wheelchair accessibility: Maybe a little tight to turn once through the door, best to ring and ask.
Awful food. Over-cooked pork medallions and an undercooked and stodgy ‘pastry’ steak pie usually can’t go wrong with that pub grub option. Another customer complained about her steak pie and the waitress just walked away. Landlord didn’t ask me how my food was when I left and just took the money. Shocking.Food: 1/5
An "out of the way" delight. The home cooked food here is excellent and the portion sizes are very generous - you will not come away hungry! The chicken parmesan meal - the cheddar covered one in the pictures - is amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the journey for a meal here.
Certainly worth a visit if you like generous portions of home cooked food. Had the parmesian chicken which was huge smaller portion available with proper chips. Recommended. Made most welcome
The food in the Black Bull was superb. Me and my dad had a brilliant meal and I had the sticky toffee pudding with custard and caramel sauce. I have to say it was scrumptious. Highly recommended
Had a fantastic meal this evening with family. 7 people, 7 different meals and not any complaints. Fabulous service, thank you Food: 5/5
I know when you visit Whitby it's usually a given to have fish and chips. But being a Sunday we fancied a Sunday roast, so I searched on Google for a pub that did them. After looking at a few we stumbled across the black bull inn so decided to give it a try, and so very glad we did. It's about 20 minutes drive roughly 9 miles from Whitby but worth every mile. It's a great authentic village pub that is probably the heart of the village that serves really really good food. We had one of the best carverys I've had in ages with as much really tasty meat and veg you could ask for,and excellent polite bar staff. We drove back to Sheffield full and very satisfied and we really recommend this great little pub.
Lovely ambience, very friendly landlord, efficient waiter, good food. Very enjoyable evening. Extensive menu, home cooked too. Thankyou Maureen McCole
Can't believe I never left a review here! We came up to Yorkshire for a family holiday back in August last year. It was a Monday or a tuesday and we were desperate to find somewhere that was open to eat at. We came across the Black Bull and oh my, the food! It was delicious, it ended up being our favourite restaurant whilst we were there! The portions were HUGE, I believe one of their nans passed down recipes and even helped in the restaurant from time to time. *annoyingly, my photos are on my laptop! Shall upload at a later date.
Food was great, and big puddings, but we had to sit outside because restaurant was like a sauna! Felt sorry for staff working in there.
