Superb breakfast superb central location. Spacious bedroom. Super friendly staff. Good pub with good selection of beers and wines. Superb harbour views. No parking, but car parks are short 5/10 minutes walk away. Had a great two days here and will be back again. Soon. Highly recommended.
After wandering around Whitby for a while, we fancied a quick pick me up, so we visited The Dolphin. Its the first time we've ever managed to get a seat inside, although it was touch and go for a minute. Very busy, dog friendly pub with a good vibe, friendly service and good beer. What more can you ask for? ‍ Food & drinks: Very good selection of beers at the bar. Well kept too.
Situated overlooking the swing bridge, large pub with different areas. Better if you can get a seat in the window overlooking aforementioned bridge and over to the railway station. We had some light bites which were faultless and the service was also great.
Fab place Fantastic staff. Great location, right in the heart of Whitby. Brilliant breakfast thanks Sarah My only negative point is: There are TVs all around the pub, playing football and not being interested in football meant that we had to find somewhere else to eat in the evening. Which was a huge shame cuz the food looked good and we would have liked to stay to eat. Maybe have one dining area without TV screens? But we will definitely stay again. Thank you
I was in Whitby with my girlfriend and daughter, having a nice walk about and browsing shops.lunch time arrived and we looked for somewhere to eat. The dolphin had available tables, which in hindsight may be due to the food. Ordered food with a drink, I unwisely chose the rump steak sandwich in sourdough baguette. The barman said there was a delay , which we accepted as we would sit drink and chat. He said 50 minutes delay on food. This was 40 minutes short of the actual delay. And when it arrived the dirty fries my lady friend ordered were indeed dirty , and cold and clammy. My sandwich looked like it had been cooked when I ordered it and sat open under a hot plate waiting to be served. The mushrooms were dessicated and hard they resembled chipped wood I'm diabetic and had taken my insulin in preparation of the foods arrival after we had asked where the food was and were given a five minute warning, so I had to eat it whatever it was or would go hypoglycemic. My daughter's chicken burger was the only decent meal and seems was the one cooked last as it was fresh, her chips hot, and the brioche bun felt freshly cut. The dirty fries were sent back but returned having been microwaved and we're even tougher but now hot and rancid. All in have a drink in the dolphin but the food is dire . See pic of steak and mushroom sandwich. Yes that's the steak, I've had bigger pieces stuck between my teeth.
Here for a weeks vacation. Been to the pub every night, some nights with our springer spaniel. Staff are very friendly. Nice to see door staff are approachable an friendly also. Would much prefer to come here than other pubs which have rude an offensive door staff. Good prices and a range of different drinks to choose from.
We went for dinner after we heard it is the best fish&chips. Maybe not on a Wednesday. However, the pie was a dream. So I recommend the restaurant for pie and mash, even if you are able to count the peas. :- I can't recommend the fish and chips.
Awful. 3 of our group ordered fish and chips, it came out with thin, undercooked, slimy fish, and undercooked chips. We complained and the waiter took it back to the kitchen. On his return we were told the boss was in the kitchen and he’d said it was fine. We were denied a refund and instead our meals were sent back after each being put in the microwave, making it even less appetising. I find it appalling that the “boss” didn’t even come out to address the situation himself, and that 3 paying customers all being unhappy with their food were basically told they were wrong and not offered anything other than the same meal reheated. We will not be returning.
Had Sunday lunch here and just one drink. Typical Whitby prices quite expensive Lunch arrived but had to be returned as it was on the cold side, apologised and heated it up, had the beef which was on the rare side but tasty and plenty of it, decent vegetables and roast potatoes however the mash potatoes tasted 'artificial ' and very sticky and quite unpleasant. Very busy but served quickly, nice place.
Nice pub right next to the moving bridge in Whitby, can see when the bridge opens and closes. We went in on a n evening when football was on, the background music was turned down for the football, great if you're a fan, not so if not!
