Wonderful bespoke three-day hiking experience with Jon’s company, Walkabout Scotland. Would recommend to all of my friends if they want an outdoor adventure in Scotland. Jon was kind, easy to reach, and very flexible with our travel plans. Our lovely and knowledgeable guide Phil was also so kind, patient, and encouraging as we summited three munros and a corbett on our trip! We hiked Ben Vrackie, Ben Macdui, Cairn Gorm, and Schiehallion on our three-day excursion with Walkabout and had a blast!
Jon and his team created a fantastic bespoke trip for us that not only included hiking but mountain biking, canyoning, via ferrata, and the hike up Ben Nevis plus other hikes. It was about a 10 - 11 day trip all in, with a guide driving us to all of our activities and hotels. Lodging, breakfast and dinners were included in our itinerary. And as a side note: Hotel Balavil had the BEST food for dinner. We were all flexible in terms of the timing of the hikes and some of the scheduled activities, but everything listed we were able to do. For the majority of our trip, we had Phil who is an excellent hiking guide, tailored his pace to our group, and found some extra activities for our group like whiskey tasting and tour. There were some challenges but it's the recovery that I was impressed with. In the beginning Jon was extremely sick so there were some switches with our guides. In one location, there was a miscommunication regarding our hotel stay, but Jon was able to find another location for us to stay. We planned on doing the Harry Potter train, but there was a misunderstanding as to who would book the tickets we were able to buy next day tickets and it all worked out. So many fun activities, my favorite activity was the canyoning. My other favorite activity was getting to the top of Ben Nevis - a must do for sure. Getting to the top is "easy", it's the going down that kills me! We did do other beautiful hikes, each is so different. One other item, highly recommend hiking poles and bring bug repellant. On top of that, recommend treating clothes prior to traveling to Scotland and I noticed a huge difference. Our friends' clothes were covered with midges but ours had very few in comparison. Overall, I highly recommend Jon's company. They do more than hiking - which was something our group really wanted and they delivered.
I could write and write about how great Walkabout Scotland is. But I won't. Just BOOK IT! You won't regret it. You will have the best time with the best guides ever Tamsin, Flo, and Stu I don't think there is a better tour company than Walkabout Scotland. I have been on 4 tours with Walkabout Scotland and already making plans for next summer. Thank you Jon and everyone at WS. With love from Istanbul
