Local businessman and wine enthusiast Mike Yeatman and his wife Chris opened a new tapas restaurant in Portishead in October 2013.
The opening of Venga was the culmination of months of hard work transforming the former cafe at 24 the High Street.
The opening of Venga was the realisation of a dream that Mike and Chris had been considering for a number of years.
The idea was first conceived during the couple’s travels they have drawn on many influences for the menu; from Barcelona, Madrid and Granada. Both share a passion for Mediterranean food and regularly prepare tapas and cater for large groups for Wine Friends a local outdoor activity company. The couple’s meeting and marriage has extended their passion for both food and wine. They are united in a desire to eat well, eat varied and travel hydrated by the local wines wherever they can.
Venga offers informal dining for the authentic Mediterranean experience, the simply cooked menu will be freshly prepared sourcing ingredients as locally as possible.
We’re now also open during the daytime with Patisserie Venga for patisserie cakes, coffee and afternoon teas.
We’re also offering Churros, which are similar to doughnuts and are a Spanish treat, with a chocolate dipping sauce.
The restaurant is open as well from Tuesday to Saturday for lunches and snacks including toasted sandwiches, salads, sandwiches and quiches.
Shoppers looking for a morning coffee meeting place or for a light lunch can try tasty and colourful traditional and contemporary cakes or buy lovely artisan breads and treats to take home.
You can also order special occasion, birthday and celebration cakes or just come for a relaxing coffee or tea and eat your chosen patisserie item in comfort in the restaurant, while watching the world go by.
We provide cream teas and afternoon teas too. For full afternoon teas, we need two days’ notice. Booking essential. So, you can drop in anytime for Cream Teas – scones, jam and cream plus tea or coffee – but Afternoon Tea, with a selection of sandwiches and cakes, we just need a bit more notice.
Patisserie Venga is open 9am until 5pm from Tuesday to Saturday. The restaurant will also be open during these times serving light lunches, snacks, teas, coffees and patisserie items made by our pastry chef Marco and his team.
Our tapas bar and restaurant opens in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday for after work drinks and tapas dinners.
