**A Hidden Gem at the End of Canal Street: An Exquisite Experience** From the moment we arrived at this wonderfully located hotel at the end of Canal Street, we knew we were in for a treat. This hotel exudes quiet sophistication, with thoughtful details that ensured our stay was nothing short of perfect. Upon entering our room, we were greeted by the sight of a sleek Illy coffee machine – a welcome touch for coffee aficionados, though it did take a bit of trial and error to master. It would have been nice to have a few more than just two pods, but the quality of the coffee made up for it. The room itself was a haven of comfort, featuring luxurious velvet furnishings and a massive TV that made unwinding in the evening an absolute pleasure. For those moments of relaxation, the dressing gowns provided were an appreciated luxury. They added to the overall sense of indulgence that permeated our stay. Check-in and check-out processes were seamless, allowing us to focus entirely on enjoying our time at the hotel. Breakfast options were well-suited to all tastes. The continental breakfast provided a delightful start to the day, but for those with a heartier appetite, the hotel restaurant opens at 10 am, offering a more substantial array of dishes. In conclusion, our stay at this hotel was extremely pleasant, characterized by its quiet elegance and attention to detail. Whether you're in town for business or leisure, this hotel promises a sophisticated and comfortable retreat. We look forward to our next visit!
Great location with a smart contemporary feel in the centre of Canal Street. Greeted with a glass of fizz and friendly staff. Room size perfectly adequate, glazing excellent, could not hear any noise with the windows closed despite it’s location however if opened be warned you will hear noise. Definitely recommend.Rooms: 4/5
menu & food quality ambience service Rather unfortunately, Velvet has fallen from grace - such a disappointing experience from its better days. The menu is very poor - cheap, easy to throw together dishes that lack inspiration or quality ingredients. The ambience is awful - it feels like a dying venue, left to rot within its own misery. And I'm not sure what the management are doing, but we saw staff eating their dinner at the bar, other staff getting drunk beside diners presumably post-shift and getting lary with the staff on shift, and their staff putting their feet up on chairs while people ate dinner. While these may not sound like big things, they are all details which detract from a customer's dining experience. People go for dinner to unwind, eat quality food, and switch off. We cannot switch off when your off-shift staff are knocking back cocktails, shouting their next order to the on-shift staff behind the bar. People are dining fgs... get up and speak to the barman, do not shout over other diners. The place has deteriorated terribly. And such a shame for a venue which was once the elegance of Canal Street. People who seek a quality dining experience should not dine here.
Perfect location. Room was absolutely amazing, really good air con which kept room nice and cool, shame that food isn’t available on Mondays and Tuesdays. Minibar prices could be adjusted seeing as bar menu is actually cheaper than the mini bar. Staff really friendly, including the bar staff. I would like to address that the stairs in the suite should be inspected for stability, stair near the top was quite wobbly which resulted in me falling down them and really injuring two of my toes
First time staying in Manchester and my wife booked the trip as a surprise for are 2 year wedding anniversary - my wife made a little comment about why we was going on booking and the hotel  left chocolate and a nice little note unprompted - nice touch from the staff. - see photo Location is perfect and has a lovely atmosphere in the area.  Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. we paid around £180-£200  for a Thursday  which I think is super fair! And good value for the quility of the hotel!    - just be aware the weekends are around £200-£300 which is way way to high!  The perfect price for the hotel/ room we had IMO is £150-£230 Signature Duplex Suite is the room we booked! Highly recommend -
Fast becoming my ‘go to’ on Canal Street. From their 2-4-1 cocktails to the tastiest Caesar salad I think I have ever eaten, it is highly recommended. The ‘brasserie’ really comes through in the flavour of the flame grilled chicken!Service: 4/5
Went here for a drink while staying nearby. Very welcoming and chatty with a good drinks selection. The manager was happy to let us sit outside and finish our drinks despite needed to bring the chairs in!Service: 5/5
Conveniently located in the heart on Manchesters gay village. The hotel exceeded all our expectations from the friendliness of the staff to the rooms. Was worried the room would be noisy on a Saturday night, with Canal Street right outside, but honestly, I could not hear a thing. Check-in was smooth and efficient, and the rooms were beautiful, with the small touches really thought about. The staff were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend!
Stayed here for one night. they let me store my luggage until check-in at 3 pm. Checked in at 3pm and was a bit surprised to just be handed my luggage with no bellhop service. The lift was tiny and I could barely fit both my and my friends luggage inside. The room itself was quite small—I booked the Premium King room and it barely fit a king bed and sofa at the foot of the bed. not much room to walk around, and there was no dresser or nightstands with storage, so my possessions cluttered the room. At one point I sat on the bed and several short black hairs were stuck to the bottom of my foot from the floor. All of this was a bit disappointing but nothing to complain about even the hair. I took a shower right away and the water was not hot, just warm, even with the temperature turned all the way hot. The water pressure was also very weak. I contacted the front desk to let them know and they said they had to adjust the boiler and for me to wait 20 mins before testing it. My friend had a shower next and reported that it still was not very hot. The biggest complaint of the night was the stained bed sheets—when lifting up the top sheet to see the mattress cover, I found multiple stains of what appeared to be blood and unmentionables. I found this to be unacceptable. I contacted the front again and let them know I’d like a new cover and they said that house keeping had gone home and that they’d bring a sheet up. I didn’t know if that meant I’d be made to change it myself at a 4 star hotel? but they never responded. 30 minutes passed and still no response and no new cover. I called multiple times and nobody picked up. It was nearing 10:30 and I was actually not here to party and would like to get in bed. I went down to the front desk in my pajamas feeling very irritated. A new receptionist was working than when I checked in and I explained to him that I asked for a new cover to replace the blood stained one, as he didn’t seem to be aware of my complaint. He tried to find us a new room but everything was booked. He asked me to have a seat in reception in my pajamas while he sent someone up. 10 minutes later the receptionist from when I checked in appeared and said she’s just been to change my sheet and that she had to contact house keeping and ask where the linens were. She then said she left her phone and key in my room and that she’d be back up to collect them. We couldn’t find one of her items and she had to come into our room and look around it was inside my open suitcase for some reason. All very unprofessional despite it not being her fault. A few hours later I noticed that the bath mat also had a blood stain on it. When all of that was sorted and we settled into bed, we discovered that the smart TV had no internet connection, only cable. When we again contacted the front desk to ask, they said it was due to guests’ accounts being saved on the TV and that it was a privacy issue. In the year 2024, it is ridiculous to only have cable TV when most people stream their shows. The compensation for all of this? One free drink and the £9 breakfast charge removed no, breakfast was not included. To be fair to them, the receptionists were quite apologetic and did try to get me a new room. However, this hotel’s amenities and services did not at all feel 4-star. No complementary snacks or alcohol that the fridge was stocked with, no complementary breakfast, no assistance with luggage, dirty sheets and unresponsive reception, no hot water, tiny room with paper thin walls and doors. All of these things are unacceptable for a 4-star hotel that I paid nearly $400 US dollars for. If I didn’t feel so bad for the receptionists who tried their best but still fell short, I would have asked for a full refund. Extremely disappointing overall and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Manchester—you’re better off booking a whole luxury apartment at Native Manchester for the same price or less. This hotel needs to stop marketing themselves as a “luxury” hotel when it doesn’t meet the standards to earn that title. Rooms: Not accurate to the photos of premium king rooms—no table to sit at and no brick details. Water pressure in the shower is weak and the water isn’t hot. The AC wasn’t working and the room was hot. I set the temperature to 13 degrees and it remained at 23. The lighting system is weird, you can’t turn one light on at a time but instead have to use a control board to alter all lights at once. You can’t turn the bathroom light on separately which means you can’t get up in the middle of the night and use the toilet without lighting up the main room. Food & drinks: The “brasserie” had nobody in it at 7pm on Sat night besides a family with a child. The server was nice but he went on break halfway and nobody took his place. The mai tai was quite good but my second one never came due to the above reason. My friends pina colada was gross and had double cream in it. The Caesar salad did not have Caesar dressing but some kind of cream sauce. The £9 breakfast was a few cold pastries and apricot yogurt with granola. I would like some more luxe options with protein and variety. I feel like I’ve had a massive sugar bomb for breakfast.
Great location especially the outdoor seating by the canal on a sunny afternoon, although the tables at the back wobble on the cobbles. Foods generally good and reasonably priced for the area, dark inside during the day when foods been served.Service: 3/5
