If you fancy a night out in Manchester, it's a safe and clean place. However, no air conditioning exists, so I imagine it’s potentially less fab in summer. But we don’t do summer in the UK anyway. I got one of the rooms on the very top floor with round windows, and it was lovely and comfy with a great view. I loved the room. Clean and comfy bed. I attended horror conventions in the hotel in the 1990s and have always had happy memories of it. Breakfast was nice but basic, and the odd, strange person was arriving at the Buffet with a bottle of vodka. The hotel has some characters in it. The reception staff was friendly, but they were chatting on arrival. They managed to book me and the other person checking in at the same time into the same room, which was a nightmare as it was a bit of a journey to find the room and then come back down to the foyer again. Safety: Security on the hotel door 24/7 Walkability: Easy access to the village and city centre Food & drinks: In all honesty, the breakfast was primarily cheap bacon and eggs. It did the trick, but I'd probably go out and find something nicer and better quality.
We weren't officially due to check in until 3, but when we arrived at 1.15 a very helpful chap on reception told us the room had just been prepared, so we were able to drop our bags off. The public areas are very grand and well maintained, so you really feel as though you're entering a 5 star establishment. We had a clean modern spacious room with a large comfortable bed and tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom was up to date and plenty big enough, unlike some places we've stayed at. It was a warm night so we had the window open which allowed in some noise from Portland St, but nothing too intrusive. Overall, we felt that we'd stayed in a top notch hotel for a budget hotel price. Highly recommended.
I like this hotel as it is in a very convenient part of Manchester, it is basic although when you enter it seems very grand. The rooms are basic yet tidy, comfy and clean, it ticks all the boxes for me, with the exception of breakfast, an all you can eat buffet is well worth the price I imagine, unless you are vegetarian or vegan, there are no options for such unless you want to just have beans, mushrooms and tomatoes, as a hot breakfast. There were three choices of cereal, one of which was vegan and they did offer me alternative milk which was helpful. The rooms have a hairdryer, a fan, and a kettle with ample coffee/tea. I would definitely go again. Noteworthy details: ALWAYS take photo ID.
It was a busy weekend so had to pay top rate. As a result, it was by far the worst value hotel I've ever stayed in. The room was hot and noisy from the outside with single glaze windows and the window didn't close properly. There was 1 towel between 2 of us. No wifi, no sockets next to bed. Bed itself was old, squeaky and had springs that you felt as you tried to get to sleep. It was pride weekend and during the night on two occasions a drunk man tried to get into my room. Security were not interested. Avoid this hotel at all costs, the location does not make up for it. It is worth paying more to stay at a proper hotel, of which there are dozens close by.
Pretty good for the price paid, my only two issue would be not having free WiFi available for the bedrooms, and that even if you close the window, you can hear the street very loudly. It is central, very clean and has most of the amenities you'd need to stay comfortably. It'd be cool if there was a fridge or something in the room but that's not a necessity at all.
Not the best hotel I've been in by a long-shot. The 'double' room felt like a single, no room service and you have to pay to use WiFi in your room. The staff tried their best to provide topnotch service though. Thank you Roshan for your assistance. Other than that it's a convenient location right between the train station and city centre.
I recently stayed at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester, and while the location was convenient and the building has some charm, my experience was a bit unsettling. The most concerning aspect was the presence of a bouncer on the door at night. This made me feel uneasy about the type of guests staying at the hotel and raised questions about the safety of the environment. It’s not something you expect to see at a hotel, and it definitely made me feel uncomfortable. On the positive side, the staff at reception were friendly and efficient, and the room itself was clean and relatively comfortable. However, the overall experience was overshadowed by the security concerns, which made it hard to relax and fully enjoy my stay. In summary, the Britannia Hotel offers some good points, but the atmosphere at night left me feeling uneasy. It’s a decent option if you need a place to stay in the city, but I’d be cautious about the security aspect. This review highlights both the positive aspects and the concerns about safety, providing a balanced perspective that justifies the 3-star rating.
We have stayed in a fair amount of hotels, and we can honestly say this is the cleanest room we have been in for a long time. The bathroom was immaculate. The bedroom the same. The sheets smelled lovely and fresh, and the bed was very comfortable. The only negative was the pillow which was so hard it was difficult to get comfortable with. From what we saw the entrance to the hotel was clean and very grand. All in all an enjoyable stay.
At £140 for a double room we expected better. The entrance and stairwell are impressive. But the rest of the hotel is dated and showing signs of needing investment and updating. Bedrooms were clean but could do with a vacuum. Shower pressure is good. One thing it’s got going for it is location. Close to public transport, bars and restaurants.
Stayed here for a couple of nights earlier this month. The hotel itself is in an excellent location, very close to Picadilly Station, and Picadilly gardens. The building from the outside looks lovely, and the entrance looks quite grand. The room itself was small, but had all the amenities required. A kettle, tea, coffee and milk. Towels and toiletries in the bathroom. A tv. A hairdryer etc. The bed was not the most comfortable bed, and did creak a bit. We had to ask for a second pillow each as they were quite thin and we needed more neck support. The staff here were all friendly enough, and helped sorted out our issues with the pillows eventually. We really liked the small bar. The girl on the bar was friendly and quick to serve us each time. We opted to have breakfast on one of the days we were here. We found it to be adequate. Hot food, cereals and fruit were available, in an all you can eat style buffet. Price was reasonable. We would stay here again should we visit Manchester in the future.
