Everything was excellent: extremely tasty food, nice music (and not too loud), attentive staff. The mussels and the caramel popcorn were a particularly nice surprise.

Our team had Christmas dinner there. We've booked our meals online, they were served easily. We enjoyed our time, had good food. Staff is very helpful, everything went smoothly.
Good is good quality. Other guests are also very nice. It is a nice, cosy place in city centre.

We had high hopes for this restaurant after visiting its sister restaurant, Trinity, which was simply outstanding. However, the food was not up to the same standard - a bit dry and not as rich in flavours. The atmosphere is good, small and cosy. Some staff members could have been more polite (one lady took our plates without a single word) but the service was good overall. Probably won't visit again as the price didn't match quality.

New incarnation of Varsity (after the old Cypriot version closed in 2014) is very good. It is owned by the same people who opened Trinity (on Trinity Street), and the neat modern European style is appealing.
The food is quite good, interesting seafood dishes, good meats, well designed and cooked. A bit pricey, but it's worth the quality. Highly recommended - but here is the thing:
The waitress brought a bottle of white wine that was warm, and it took us some time to convince her to bring an ice bucket to chill it properly. Totally out of pattern with the food, and probably tells something about the chef and the backroom culture.
Amazingly, we've had a similar (warm wine) experience in Jamie Italian, many years ago - and it turns out that the head chef in Trunuty-Varsity does cone from Jamie Italian... could it really be a coincidence??
Anyway, this is why we have it 4 stars, in spite of otherwise excellent experience

Tasty, contemporary British menu served in an attractive yet unpretentious environment. The team were very accommodating. We visited with our 20 month year old daughter and were made to feel very welcome.
